🔧 BUILD Overdue, new daily- GWD's 2013 Lexus GS350 AWD F-Sport

General Information

So I had a 2013 optima that blew up on me on the way home from work. It was a stripped basic commuter that did its job for 148k miles. Kia is replacing the motor for free, awesome. But in the meantime I got a new daily.

I’ve had it a week and put a thousand miles on it. It’s been a fucking awesome week in this thing. 2013 GS350 awd F sport with 55k miles.

I’m curious at how you got Kia to replace the motor for free on a 7-year old car? Warranty that fabulous?

My guess is he got it at Gerald Kia? Home of the lifetime warranty! Only saying that because the pic at the Shell gas station is the shell in Oswego at 34 and 30, which is nearby to Gerald Motors (where we bought our old Sonata and the Edge ST)

There’s a recall on the 2.4 and 2.2’s. Lifetime replacement. 2 weeks after mine blew up a coworkers Sonata blew up and his was replaced for free aswell. I also have another buddy who is a tow truck driver who was buying blown up kias/Hyundais and getting free motors to flip them. He said the easiest way to tell if it’s been replaced is the dipstick is a different color.

Great White Drake Great White Drake, OOC what kind of mileage are you getting around town and on the highway (roughly what speed)?

I'm looking to replace my G37 and the GS350 AWD (or F-Sport) is looking like a contender. Or, if I can find a good deal, an LS460 F-Sport, since both would be larger, more comfortable, and a lot quieter for long road trips.

My commute is 73 miles round trip. 50/50 highway and streets buuut there’s never stop and go traffic at these times unless there’s an accident. I average 24 in the winter and jut under 26mpg in the summer. I got almost 28 on a trip to 41 from Frankfort. All awd come with the 6 speed, the 8 speed is supposed to be better, but only comes in 14+ rwd’s. From what I’ve read the 6 speed is much peppier off the line tho.

140k trouble free miles. Interior doesn’t rattle and the car still drives tight. You can get these things under 20k now and it’s an absolute steal imo.

Thanks to project farm on YouTube for testing different headlight resto kits I went with sylvania. These things were really looking horrible lol. Before and after.

Jeeze. I should try that kit.

I did the 3m kit a year or two ago and the shit came back. Plus the lenses were scared from the HIDs. I'm just gonna have to find new housings or swap lenses if I feel froggy.
I used the Mother's kit on a friends Volvo XC60, that was last October? Said they still look brand new, and it's been outside in Florida sun since we did it.

Idk what that one comes with but this was 400 grit paper, 1000,2000. An activator, compound, UV clear coat protectant, and all towels to do the job.

Since it's been about two years... fuel mileage still averaging the same? How is it for long distance cruising, like 6+ hours at a time? I am still thinking about replacing the G37 Coupe with one of these, and its maiden voyage is potentially to southern Florida and back.
My wife drives it now and she’s getting 18.9 lol. She’s all stop and go though with a heavy foot.

I’m fully ready to put 300k miles on this thing. It’s a comfortable car and wouldn’t hesitate to take on a road trip. My only suggestions would be get the winter package just for the side window treatment, definitely awd, and don’t get a 2013.

Things to look out for: sunroof rattle. It’s a simple seal replacement that took me an hour with no special tools. I did mine as preventative maintenance. Check trunk for puddle in the rear corners. A drain gets plugged, soaks the amp and takes out your entire radio.
