I did a write up for Mook's old food blog on the Ricobene's steak sandwich. It's the best sandwich in the city hands down.

Franco's in Streamwood makes the best Italian sub.

Mr. Sub's hot combo is a staple too.

Can't talk about sandwiches in IL without mentioning Epic Deli.

I agree with Ricobenes. Used to be a place on Archer just west of Halsted that made a pretty mean breaded steak and a chicken parm sandwich.
Rumor has it, the place was owned by people with mob ties and the city forced them to shut down or some shit like that. My buddy that lives in Canaryville told me that

Conte Di Savoia in Little Italy, on Taylor Street is another good spot. It's a small Italian grocery store, but they have a great deli and make really good sandwiches. I used to go there and Fontano's pretty often when I went to UIC.

But that was like 5 years ago or right after they sold it.

Fiores (old school dago deli) by Erie and Oakley is near your old hood. They had good subs as well.
I heard they closed down recently though

I have had Freddies breaded steak and yes its good, their pizza is pretty good as well. But in Bridgeport, I'm a Phil's pizza fan lol.

Frankie's Deli in Oakbrook Terrace, was on Chicago's Best for their meatball subs.

Been there a few times and tried different subs, all were good.
