3800 On today's episode of my horrible life choices, 00 park ave edition.

So I brought another 3800 thing home, 2000 park ave a dude threw the cannon at it trying to fix the miss and gave up. I'm pretty sure most of it's issue is the plenum is warped right behind the throttle body it's audible and visible and you can change the idle by holding your thumb over it, it needs cleaned terribly, definitely has a bad wheel bearing and probably needs lower intake gaskets but the body is solid. Has new struts. Rust is only on the bottom of the doors not on any strut towers, the trans shifts good, and most importantly it doesn't rattle at all and the oil pressure light isn't on when it gets warm. Was dailyed until the miss started.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep it and clean it up, gut it for the l36, throw the blower and heads on it I have, or if I'll just fix it and flip it but I really couldn't pass it up for 600 bucks.

That or jb weld was my thoughts I may end up fixing it right and cleaning it up though. I got a kid that will be driving before too long and it'd make a pretty great car for that when the time comes

I might have an intake laying around I just haven't dug through my junk yet it's a little low on coolant so it probably needs lower gaskets too, the further into it I go the harder it gets to talk myself out of top swapping it when the only thing I'd have to get is gaskets and an L67 balancer.

On the other side I should just fix it and bomb it around for the mpgs til the kid can drive it around. But for what I've got in it just hearing it run without a knock is good enough for me with junkyard engine prices lately. Never know when I'll need another for the crank grinder

This actually has a little backstory to it, I'm friends with the guys brother and he was firing the cannon and asked me for a rail of injectors, which whatever I have that junk too but I told him it wasn't probably an injector and that if he could get me some codes I'd help him fix it. Well that offended him and we probably didn't talk for a month. Tends to happen occasionally because we're both some proud assholes

So a few months later he stops over for a beer and says his brothers selling the car. It was a couple hundred higher than what I got it for at first so I was on the fence, another week goes by he hits me with 600. I tell him I wanna see it first, and he pulls it here on a trailer, I looked at it for about 2 minutes, heard the vac leaks and cut him a check. Then I showed him the mani lol. I'm just glad there wasn't any hard feelings over the deal and it turned out the way it did and I'm kind of excited to start toying with the thing.

yeah i was just like its a 3.8 v6, fuel efficiency is definitely not its forte...but i guess on the hwy fuel economy isn't terrible according to you guys. I'm just spoiled with my toyota/lexus hybrid lol

most 3800s saw 30+ mpg highway pretty easily.

I'm not sure I care about the mpgs alot until maybe the kid starts driving it but it supposedly did 28 on the highway before it went south.

I'm really leaning towards a top swap and then if I do pass it down I'll probably just pull the blower belt on it to keep it tame until she's good enough with it to have a little smoke under the hood. Probably nothin crazy though I'll just leave it stock pulley and it should be a fun little bomber

It's probably going there honestly. I did have a good looking na intake in my pile that I wanna throw on just to see if it fixes it but it's probably getting the m90 as soon as I have a balancer pulley.

We owned 2 3800 powered vehicles back in the day. A grand prix and a Buick. But I was a teenager and didn't know any better. I loved how torquey they were

Feel that. I think this is me subconsciously burning through some of the pile I've accumulated in the last couple of years. Hell I've still got the h body k member and transmission that came with one engine so I've probably even got a wheel bearing and a backup trans for the damn thing
