My 2 favorites Paradise Pup in Des Plaines and Triple XXX in Lafayette
I'm more of a traditional burger fan, save all that crazy shit on a burger. I can do the fried egg and bacon but thats as far as it goes for me besides the usuals.

1st 2 pics are Paradise Pup

Paradise Pup is definitely a favorite of mine too. And those fries....they are amazing!!

First time I went I ordered the burger you posted above, but I got a double, along with the fries you posted. It was so damn good I ate almost all of it....felt like shit all afternoon.

they have a stuffed burger too iirc and it's pretty solid.

not my fave but it works.
There used to be a place in Aurora called Hound's Blue Moon Pub that always had a variety of stuffed burgers on the menu. But one day a week (Tuesdays?) they'd ONLY do stuffed burgers and they'd offer about 30-40 options. You want something that isn't a stuffed burger and you can go sit in the corner and wait like 30-45 minutes.

They closed, then changed owners like 2-3 years ago and no longer offer them.

Not that it matters, but I'll see if I can find the photos of the burger menu, it was impressive and they had some unique and flavorful ideas.

Growing up my Aunt owned a bar (still does) but she doesnt own that bar anymore. Her burgers were very well known in the city, at least on the north side. She had the best burgers I ever had, 1/2 lb patties. The guy she bought the patties off was from a family run very small butcher and he delivered them fresh daily in one of those trucks that look like the Swann trucks. She claims she only put a lil salt, pepper and few other things on them. She always claimed it was the beef and not her seasoning. It was normal to see 30ish people in there eating lunch daily.

Her pizza sausage was a huge hit as well and I make them at home. Same guy would deliver her fresh italian sausage links without that fennil seeds in them. She would butterfly it, flatten it out and pull the skin off. SPG and oregeno to season them, throw them on the grill and add pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese to finish them off, put on french bread.

My point is, little dive bars usually have the best damn food.

I feel like dive bars do what Yaj Yak said above very well.....they do less is more. They aren't fancy with a bunch of crap on there.....but their burger with just lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese will be amazing. They'll make sure the beef patty is top notch.

From Galaxy Lanes Bowling Alley bar, Thunder Bay, ON (Aug, 2014). Not the best I've ever had, but after hours of riding in the cold, and they serve it with poutine and beer, it was mighty damn fine.

I have never had a bad burger in Canada. My favorite burger I've ever had was at a hotel in Toronto.
