So I did something I never thought I would. I bought a turbo system for the T/A. I was actually looking to sell the car for Braap but a used complete turbo system kind of fell in lap so I figured why not.

The car was set up for nitrous last season and due to the shortage it never made a full timed pass which sucks. I was looking to see how far I could push a stock bottom end LS1. My plans change with the wind so the car still has a stock 4L60 and 10 bolt with a 3.73. I was planning to build the 4L60 to a Lvl 6 at FTI but that has changed.

Anyways here's the car from last season.




Now on to the build. I bought a turbo system that comes with a T4 76mm turbonetics turbo. I was originally going to just slap it on the LS1 and swap the cam but I have decided to swap over to a SBE 5.3. I have to decide between an iron or aluminum block. The goal is still the same, to push an SBE engine as far as I can, so that has me leaning towards an iron due to cost. I'm targeting high 600/ low 700 wheel. It will be running E-85, tuned by Speed Inc. and I will also be putting in a TH400 with a brake. Eventually it will get an 8.8 or 9" with a 3.20ish gear. The suspension is about 80% done already so I will be finishing that off. My goal is to have the car up and running by the end of the season, the old intake and nitrous stuff is already gone so I have decent jump. Pictures of the turbo kit and progress to follow.

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to the build. Anyone know of a 5.3 shortblock or TH400 core for sale?

alan has 5.3s, i think he has a couple 4.8s too, tom bought on from him a few months ago.
tom has 2 400 cores i believe. well i know theyre at the shop, but dont know if he wants to sell or not.
then carl just got his trans shop opened up next to us in the same building.

but... i suggest a 80e. ;)

Really we all know if you terminator swap it it would runs mid 4’s in the 1/4

I have Frank asking Alan. His name has come up as the guy for junk yards LS'. No 80, I want simplicity and the ability to shift it when I want without having a $4k tranny bill. A fo hunnit and a 3.21 gear us plenty cruiseable.

Converters are more expensive, manual valve bodies are more expensive, trans brakes are more expensive. The 80 will cost double compared to a 400. That's a fact. Plus it takes more work to make them fit in an f-body.

i dont know about fitment in a fbody, but as far as the trans goes. for your goal of power, it would be a simple rebuild with HD2 shift kit, and brake valve body.

i wouldnt rule it out tho. the converter im using for my turbo 5.3/80e is only like 700 bucks. and any quality th400 converter is about the same.

Picked up a 5.3 today. Also figure I'd throw up a pic of the turbo system. Progress.
