Netflix plans to raise the price of its ad-free service a few months after the continuing Hollywood actors strike ends, the latest in a series of recent price increases by the country's largest streaming platforms. From a report: The streaming service is discussing raising prices in several markets globally, but will likely begin with the U.S. and Canada, according to people familiar with the matter. It couldn't be learned how much Netflix will raise prices by or when exactly the new prices will take effect. Over the past year or so, the cost of major ad-free streaming services has gone up by about 25%, as entertainment companies look to bring their streaming platforms to profitability and lead price-conscious customers to switch to their cheaper and more-lucrative ad-supported plans. Streamers are also starting to look at how they can create new pricing tiers around exclusive programming, such as live sports, without running the risk of driving people away from their core offerings.

goddamn these guys raise prices often...so now they're going to raise prices despite a surely significant gap in new content...which will hit as soon as the price increase hits? So you'll be paying more for the stuff you've already seen?

I think it's about time for me to cancel netflix just to let new stuff build up over the next few months. Having netflix for 6ish months a year max seems like the way to do it

As soon as I can cut out cable, I will. We don't watch any live TV anymore, just all the streaming apps.

The strike is over. Let's see the gouging.
Actor's strike isn't over yet, but yes there will be gouging.

I swear the sheer volume of low budget, short-season GARBAGE shows exploded during the transition to streaming. Then they blame the failures on writers and technology...when really it's that nobody wants to watch 80% of what's being churned out

Yeah canceled Netflix and all this streaming shit a looobg time ago. These days itā€™s Amazon prime and I have basic cable again and use the xfinity app on the fire TV to watch live TV and recorded shit. The xfinity app is solid. Functions the Same as the box.

And the prices are going up, just like they said:

Netflix today said that it is increasing the cost of some of its subscription plans in the United States, the UK, and France. Prices will be going up for the Basic and Premium plans in those three countries.

In the United States, the price of the Basic plan will increase from $9.99 to $11.99 per month, while the price of the Premium plan will increase from $19.99 to $22.99 per month. The ad-supported tier price will remain the same at $6.99 per month, as will the $15.49/month Standard plan.

Netflix no longer offers the Basic plan to new subscribers in the United States, but prices will presumably increase for existing subscribers. The Premium Netflix plan is the only plan that provides access to 4K video streaming and spatial audio. The $15.49 Standard plan and the ad-supported plan are limited to 1080p.

Netflix announced the price hikes in its earnings call for the third quarter of 2023 [PDF], which took place today. Netflix said that it added 8.8 million new subscribers, up from 2.4 million new subscribers in the year-ago quarter. Revenue came in at $8.54 billion, up from $7.9 billion last year.

Subscriber growth comes after Netflix began cracking down on password sharing between households. Netflix says that cancel reaction to the password sharing limitation "continues to be low," exceeding its expectations.

Was surfing Netflix last night and legit couldnā€™t find anything to watch, they also seem to be changing the thumbnail pics on shows and no longer show youā€™ve watched something in some attempt to trick you? I donā€™t know, fuck them.
I started watching Suits on netflix right after I cancelled, got 1.5 seasons in before the remaining time lapsed and it's not available on Hulu or Prime. I'm sure it'll rotate to one of those soon enough so i'll just wait

I hope a lot of people drop it due to these increases. I'm not signing back up until F1 DTS comes out, which is normally march
