Im going to try and make a long story short. shortly after purchasing my new challenger, I had the windows tinted. And that same day, I started noticing shards of glass on the floor around my drivers seat.
After some investigation, I found glass wedged up under the drivers door seal, and more coming out of the drains at the bottom of the drivers door. A short call to the selling dealer, and I found out that the car had the drivers door latch replaced, and when they did this service they broke the drivers window.
They ordered Mopar glass, and had a glasshole company install. Well after the tints being done, i started noticing more and more glass coming out of the bottom of the door, plus there was more inside the door rattling around. So back to the dealer 100 miles away it went.
After a complete day there, they were able to completely clean out the rest of the broken glass. At the same time I had been noticing that when the window would go almost all the way up, it would make a creak noise. Very annoying. So before the door panel was put back together, they adjusted the window in the door and it "kinda" went away. More or less. Well its been creeping back. Everytime I open and close the door, or raise up the window to full seal, it creaks bad. Its not normal.
So tonight I decided rather than to go 200 miles round trip again, I was going to tackle taking it all apart again, and see if I could do any better. I was able to get it all apart correctly, and get to the window.
Now here is where I need help. The window was tightened in the clamps very tight. To the point where I thought it was going to crack. So I loosened up the clamps to just before you could pull the glass out. I lubed up everything I could find and put it all back together. Door panel was installed perfectly, and the window works.
But the creak is still there, no change. And since the last dealer worked on it just a few weeks ago, no other dealer will touch it. They will tell me the last dealer needs to repair it right and send me there. No thanks. They were monkeys in the service department.
So I can easily get back into the door, but I need help with adjustments. Not just those clamps. But there are some other star screws that are vertical with those clamps, and they look like they maybe tilt the glass towards or away from the door. Maybe this is what it needs. It only creaks when it gets to the top of where it closes. Dont forget this is a frameless window. So it indexes down an inch or so when you open and close the door. This is when it really creaks bad. I assume somewhere, the class is crying when it gets bent back as it goes up into the seal. Its not the seal at the base of the glass or the seal at the top of the roof.
What now?? Thank god I was there watching the tech like a hawk when he disassembled the door panel. Its super easy to get into. So again, anyone have experience installing door window glass?? Should the clamps be tight or just mildly tight holding the glass? I have no idea where to go with this next. But its deal breaking to me at this point. Otherwise the car has been awesome, and its a blast to drive. Also if anyone has someone that they trust at a dodge service department in the NW, they can point me to. I would be happy to take it in and let a dodge tech fix it if they can.
Thanks in advance, and no flames please. Just want to get this fixed.
