🔧 BUILD My junker Buick revival....

General Information

Doubt anybody cares but figured I had my cucv build here so why not. This is my first car when I was 16, it's a 1970 Buick gran sport. It was slightly less junk then but not by much. It got parked after the trans gave way as well as the brakes. It sat for many years outside and then a few years in a garage. I was finally able to go and get it last week.

The uncovering aka barn find status.

Emersonhart13 and I were able to get it on to the trailer (my brother helped)

Getting it off the trailer turned into a hell of a thing as well. A neighbor walking by was kind enough to help out.

Got her over to her spot so the wife can potentially park in the garage again

Got to work today on it. Checked the oil and threw a battery in it. Gave it a bit of spray and she fired right up. Steady oil pressure and a bit of an exhaust leak. Seemed to idle oh so nice for sitting for a good 8 years. RAN WHEN PARKED

Yep, leaking.

Wasn't done for the day. Decided that since the engine seemed all good for now, might as well get going on the trans.

Are those metric banjos in the back? I used 91 Lumina APV hoses on the Lemans front, they were pretty darn long but I adapted to inverted flare from bubble flare.

I would try to dig up some fronts hoses and see if they could work. Try an Astro Van.

Then again I would probably swear a bit then cut/reweld the tabs.
They’re metric and they’re bubble for the f body stuff. I need about a 10” long hose to get the brackets to basically in-line where the stock hard line runs. With the short f body lines they have to have some tight bends and be right next to the snubbers which I don’t think I like. Plus I’d like stainless lines anyways. I could probably just buy another set of fronts and run them.

Still waiting on lines and tabs. Didn’t have much time this week to do anything but got the new cover on and torqued. Probably going to end up bending that bracket some to fit since the new cover is so much thicker. As soon as the tabs and lines come in and I get them welded on I’ll get this fucker back under the car and progress should move decently (hopefully). Rear end rebuild has been a big hurdle for other stuff to move forward.

Going to be a few weeks till I can drop the old tank.

Dilemma, I went all out with these pumps and would be nice to just run the new tank since the other one is 53 year old now but also my plan is to rock the car a season as I dreamt with the big block and 4 speed. Think a carb regulator is fine dumbing down a single 450?

Nice you went to the same place for fuel stuff I did. Still need to install mine, I think you'll be ahead of me. Eager to hear your results.

In terms of the regulator, I think it will depend on which reg you get and probably more importantly if the return line can cope. Back in the day the blow through guys were all about the Aeromotive 13202 regulator. Definitely spendy though. Maybe couple the two lines together and see what the pressure is at the union with the 450 in the tank.

I just did -8 feed and return as I was paranoid about it.

I was planning 8an and 6an return. Worst case I just put the original tank back if it’s usable and store the ricks tank till I’m ready.

I'm not sure you could get that pump to live long trying to regulate it down that low. You could swap one pump out for an in tank carb pump. Monza, S10 or Bronco II ran them.
I’ll just hope the stock tank looks alright inside. If not then maybe that’s an option. I hate doing shit twice but my goal is car on the road asap.

I ran a Walbro 307M at 11-13 PSI forever (TBI with AFPR) and never had a problem. high pressure gerator 255 pump. Sure as shit wasn't a 450 though lol. Stock fuel lines too. I'll say that provided the return is big enough to get the pressure down, fuck it the pump will probably be under super low stress since the current/heat goes up in one with the pressure.

If you're paranoid buy a TBI pump or something and throw it in there then swap that out when you're done.

Plan is to drop stock tank anyways because I’m hoping there’s a build sheet up there, it hasn’t been anywhere else. Plus rubber lines are shit and if I do need to clean it out I can do that. It’s still like 1/4 full with gas and stabil.
