🔧 BUILD My junker Buick revival....

General Information

Doubt anybody cares but figured I had my cucv build here so why not. This is my first car when I was 16, it's a 1970 Buick gran sport. It was slightly less junk then but not by much. It got parked after the trans gave way as well as the brakes. It sat for many years outside and then a few years in a garage. I was finally able to go and get it last week.

The uncovering aka barn find status.

Emersonhart13 and I were able to get it on to the trailer (my brother helped)

Getting it off the trailer turned into a hell of a thing as well. A neighbor walking by was kind enough to help out.

Got her over to her spot so the wife can potentially park in the garage again

Got to work today on it. Checked the oil and threw a battery in it. Gave it a bit of spray and she fired right up. Steady oil pressure and a bit of an exhaust leak. Seemed to idle oh so nice for sitting for a good 8 years. RAN WHEN PARKED

Yep, leaking.

Wasn't done for the day. Decided that since the engine seemed all good for now, might as well get going on the trans.

Is that a premade exhaust or just generic piping? There used to be a decent priced Jegs 3" exhaust, but they jacked the hell out of the price on it. I can't imagine what the on branded one looks like price wise.
It’s a premade for the 69-72 a body

It’s this kit. I’ll probably end up getting some turndowns for the end. Dislike straight out the back.

WTF is going on here.

Oh you mean count the ugga duggas off then ugga duggas back on...

Was removing the pinion nut while not running myself over with my own car. Brakes aren’t hooked up out back plus I’m a one man show. Tool was like $12 and works awesome with a breaker bar.

I tend to put absolutely as much as possible on then validate by feel typically.

Thanks for the exhaust PN. Trying to figure out what to do about the Lemons should I get it running this year. It certainly needs something exhaust wise.

It’s dual 3”, they make a few 2.5” systems too.

I did a full rebuild on a Ford 8.8 once. Axles, diff., ring and pinion, etc. I thought I followed everything I read to a T. It still whined a little. After that I decided I’d pay someone to do it from then on.
Dude builds rock crawlers from the ground up and dabbles in hot rods/muscle cars. $300 labor seemed like a steal to me for a diff/gear install. Hoping it’ll hold up to future mods and a sticky tire.

I yanked axles and brakes to lighten it up since he didn’t need those (and I have new axles and other shit to toss in)

Picked up my rear end, was going to slap the axle shafts and brakes on except I misplaced the wheel bearings (or I already replaced them but who can remember  ) so I ordered some timkens that’ll be here Wednesday. Hoping I can get it fully assembled and back in the car this weekend along with the adjustable control arms I bought. I went all out with fancy fasteners and my self powder coated diff cover.

Then it’s driveshaft measuring time and exhaust back on. Need to figure out a better end to the exhaust, maybe order just turndowns or slash cut the ends. Don’t know yet.

These are probably my favorite A-Body. I'm excited to see the progress.
Once I get the rear end back in I’ll be able to get a bunch of shit done hopefully.

Got wheel bearings in, wheel studs in and axle shafts in last night. Still need to get the brakes on and see if the rotors sit centered. Had to shim the backing plates with the original axles.

Fucked around a bit today, got my rotors fitting with a few minutes of die grinding. Brakes fit good but factory f body lines are so short and I can’t get the bracket to sit nice around the snubs. Guess I’ll order some stainless braided lines and redo/mod the metal lines.

You gonna do the fronts too? The Lemans is sitting in Elkhorn with the bits to swap on 98-02 f-body fronts.....
Fronts have been done for a long time. I’ve got factory replacement braided lines up front. Rears I think I’d just need custom/generic. Need to look around

Are those metric banjos in the back? I used 91 Lumina APV hoses on the Lemans front, they were pretty darn long but I adapted to inverted flare from bubble flare.

I would try to dig up some fronts hoses and see if they could work. Try an Astro Van.

Then again I would probably swear a bit then cut/reweld the tabs.

Found it. Post #425. Bought brackets on eBay for cheap, bought new drum hubs since I apparently tossed mine and then used the spindle to turn them down with a flap wheel to fit inside the f body rotor. Then complete bolt on.

You can buy brackets for like $100 to put 5th Gen brembos on too. I was so fucking close to doing that since I had calipers and rotors sitting around but decided 2 brake upgrades was enough for a car that hasn’t moved under it’s own power in forever. Plus next brake upgrade would probably just be wilwoods to fit a 15” front runner and 15” DR if it happened.
