🔧 BUILD My junker Buick revival....

General Information

Doubt anybody cares but figured I had my cucv build here so why not. This is my first car when I was 16, it's a 1970 Buick gran sport. It was slightly less junk then but not by much. It got parked after the trans gave way as well as the brakes. It sat for many years outside and then a few years in a garage. I was finally able to go and get it last week.

The uncovering aka barn find status.

Emersonhart13 and I were able to get it on to the trailer (my brother helped)

Getting it off the trailer turned into a hell of a thing as well. A neighbor walking by was kind enough to help out.

Got her over to her spot so the wife can potentially park in the garage again

Got to work today on it. Checked the oil and threw a battery in it. Gave it a bit of spray and she fired right up. Steady oil pressure and a bit of an exhaust leak. Seemed to idle oh so nice for sitting for a good 8 years. RAN WHEN PARKED

Yep, leaking.

Wasn't done for the day. Decided that since the engine seemed all good for now, might as well get going on the trans.

Slow progress is still progress right? Got my old hydroboost bracket off and the new one ready to go on after I finish painting it. Then I can start assembling my hydro clutch master, hydroboost and then my master. Then I can plumb in my distro block/adjustable proportioning valve and line lock.

Curious how this goes, I saved the Astro's booster unit when I parted it.
You shouldn’t have to do what I just did then, the Astro mount is the same as the one I bought there. I found some new booster mounts and the holes line up perfectly so it should all work. Also came with threaded rod and the bracket for the pedal

basically had to cut the end off since it’s too short and wouldn’t work anyways and will extend it.

Also going to snag a jeep steering box so I can use metric hoses (either a friend is making them or I’ll end up with AN high pressure)

I was going to just go manual till I got a whole setup off a k30 for free.

might still get weird with the pump but we’ll see what I can pickup cheap.
I'll be honest, I don't like the feel of the hydro boost pedal on my Escalade. It took some getting used to opposed to how regular vacuum brakes feel but They do work better I suppose.

Yeah, if it was a flat piece I could cut it out no problem, but yeah i would have to get my toolroom on that and would need specific measurements... sorry man.
No worries, I appreciate the offer either way. I think since I’ve invested a whopping $20 into this hydroboost setup that it’s best to cut my losses now and go to my original idea. 7/8 bore Wilwood master.

Got a few things worked out today on the junker. Need to remake both front brake lines and a line from the new rear line up to new proportioning valve. Then I can bleed these and be done. Need to hook up my clutch master still and bleed that.

Make absolutely sure it is not loose on the line. I don't like those things cuz they can rub through the brake line itself since they always try to revert back to their straight shape

BeforeI install If you have to lightly smacking it with a hammer to turn it into an oval so that it snugs on to the line and you have to install it with a screwing motion in the direction to uncoil the spring and push it on the line... then work it in the opposite direction so that the spring gets tightened onto the line.

Brakes are done. Removed my old rear end yoke to get ready to rebuild the 12 bolt. Not sure if keeping the axle under the car or to do it or trying to do it on jack stands is easier.

Bought a truetrac torsion diff, Yukon 33 spline axles (it’s got 30 spline now I think), crush sleeve eliminator and 3.55 gears. Was going to buy some arp ring gear bolts and bearing cap bolts. Waited to make sure I got the right shit for the true trac
