🔧 BUILD 2016 BMW M3 - Yas Marina Blue

General Information

My M3 has seen its first few mods since I purchased it in July 2020 and thought I share with the guys and gals of the forums.
It's a 2016 BMW F80 M3.
Color - Yas Marina Blue
Transmission - 7 speed DCT

I wanted to address suspension first so I purchased the KW DDC coilovers and 12 mm future classic spacers. My car has just over 70k miles so I opted to go with coilovers instead of lowering springs because I figured my shocks were pretty worn and I have no plans to sell the car. This set allows me to keep my electronic dampening function so I can switch between comfort, sport and sport +. I considered the Bilstein damptronics and Ohlin Road and Track but read on the bimmer forums that the ride quality was more firm with each of those compared to the KW's.

The fine folks at German Auto Werks in Lake in the Hills did the install and alignment for me. The ride quality has been great. It still feels soft in comfort, but also has the direct steering and planted to the ground feel that I wanted. The end result is roughly a 30mm drop on all 4 corners. You can see a "before and after" shot with the parking garage photos.
This is my first lowered car so parking lots have been a lot of fun to say the least...
I also had my front bumper repaired and repainted by A&L in Palatine to delete the drilled holes from the license plate. Additionally, I had A&L paint a color match stripe to my M Performance splitter and lip to go with theme of my spoiler. All of the parts were purchased from IND in Lake Zurich.

Next Mods :
Winter set of tires / wheels :p
AWE Switchpath or M Perf Exhaust
New set of summer wheels. Dream wheels would be BBS LM's but HRE's FF04 look really nice too :D

The car has been an absolute blast to drive and would highly recommend them to anyone who has the chance to acquire one. It can fit the baby seats in the back, groceries from Costco in the trunk, and still be a fun track car if you want to go sideways.
I haven't posted on here in awhile and will try to be more active on the forums. I dabble with photography so I will upload any shots I take from the weekly meets.
I'm pretty active on instagram if you want to follow more of my M3 @ricof80

Fall Line motorsports aluminum transmission oil pan is installed. One complaint we had was that the ports to route for an additional cooler was on the exhaust side which is a pretty tight space. Otherwise was pretty straight forward.
The rear suspension is now raised roughly 10mm, I was rubbing in the back ?.

I'll take some proper photos soon.

Trying to stay positive so I'm making this post ?

I ran over some debris / rock on the way into work today that punctured my engine oil pan. Thankfully I was less than a mile from my office and able to safely park it to be towed. I've got terrible luck with these things.. a similar incident happened two years ago when I punctured my fuel tank and muffler coming home in I55 (stock ride height too). Hoping for the best and that it's just the pan ?
I hit the pan just right....
Also big thanks to Josh with Alpine Towing from Lake Zurich. He handled everything getting it on and off the tow truck with the utmost care like it was his. We had to drag it up the flatbed since BMW designed the manual override to release into neutral under the car. Surprisingly my front lip took the impact like a champ. Minor scuffing that I should be able to touch up with paint I have at home.

After a month of back and forth with State farm my M3 is finally back in business.

They ended up replacing my oil pan, my diff cover, and skid plate which were all damaged from the rocks / debris in the road. Here's another close up pic of my old oil pan for kicks.
Not gonna lie ... it felt kinda weird driving it again after having a corolla rental car for a month

Finally installed my first exhaust mod today!

My buddy Sean sold me his gently used Active Autowerke Single mid pipe non resonated. I'm really digging the change. So much less restricted air flow with removing the secondary cats. Love the turbo spool and deeper growl at lower RPM's. This is how the car should have sounded from factory. I bet gained a little HP too.

I'm definitely planning on pairing this with an axle back / muffler setup next summer if possible. I'm leaning towards the Remark SS.

Here's a video short from today and one from a few weeks ago for reference. I need to capture some more sound clips for sure!

Just had the car in for warranty repair to replace the valve cover. My car has been making an embarrassing and intermittent squeaking noise when the engine is idling. Particularly embarrassing when I'm stopped at red lights or drive thrus ?

Thankful it was covered by the CarMax warranty so it only cost me my deductible of $500 ?. $740 just for the cover...10 hrs of labor in the claim. Repair was done by German auto werks in lake in the hills.
