I don't even think they needed an F35. They could have done it with an F-16.

Not as "cool" as the F-35, would rather have seen the Raptor, as it does have a better thrust/weight ratio. They were almost assurdely working with the RAF so the only combat jets they have access to are the Eurofighter (which they already did in new-old TG) and the F-35.
