Looking at a 2004 530i manual with 128k on the clock. The owner says the valve cover gasket is leaking a bit. Is this a big deal? I'm new to BMWs and would appreciate any input from those who have experience with these vehicles. The asking is $4k with a rebuilt title. Thanks.

$4k for that car with a rebuilt title isnt a deal at all.

valve cover leak is pretty normal and isnt a bad job to do. oil pan gasket is also likely leaking, which sucks to replace. check control arms for play too.

but at 4k with a rebuilt title i'd keep looking. you can get a clean title car for that price

edit: didnt see it was manual. that's probably harder to find

Don’t buy a pre-lci e60. Get a 2008+ or pass. 4K + a lot more to fix all the post 100k mark maintenance if it hasn’t been done yet. The LCI cars have a lot of hidden and important improvements, so if you are going to sink money in a car it might as well be better in the first place.

Manuals command higher prices on the 5r’s. On a 530 seems kind of a waste. If you want a car to thrash through the gears just get a three series.

I think the price is good, but there are better BMW models for similar money.
