So I knocked the dust off my RC cars and I’ve been getting home from work and driving them it actually releases stress and relaxes me.

I have 2wd stampede on a 7 cell which I want to upgrade to 3s Lipo my question will this thing catch on fire? I’m happy with it has massive torq and can’t keep the front wheels down. Or am I better off just buying new 7 cell battery’s if so what do u recommend? I mostly drive her on my block no jumps just terrorize the street. I haven’t raced my neighbor yet since he keeps breaking on Lipo. Lol

I have a team associated TC4 awd electric street Lambo which has broken two of my neighbors hearts they both have stampede’s one on Lipo and one on nicad battery we are neck to neck with the Lipo stampede at the end lol. The tc4 is not faster it just launches hard awd and they are busy trying to keep there’s straight and front wheels down on the street. I want to surprise them and just pull away currently on 7 cell traxxas battery with 17t 30,000 engine in it. What engine and battery do u recommend?

My batteries are atleast 7 years old plus so I think they are down on power or what do u experts think? They only last 10-15 min.

Third I have a hpi 15t awd belt driven drift car which is fun but the last time I drove her the wheels kept coming off good thing my son has great eyes he would find the bolt that tightens the wheel to the spindle. I would put them back on and u can’t tighten them all the way then the tire won’t turn it’s got some weird fake chrome brake disks and caliper the wheels bolt on too.

I cant remember where I got the team associated car and hpi drift car but I think I got them for like $50 bucks each in a package deal from a buddy many moons ago. The tc4 is actually almost new and fun car to drive just needs some extra power. Any help or input will be helpful since I can’t go to hobby shop I have to order everything online.

What ESC is in the Stampede?

If the Speed Controller doesn't have a LiPo safety it is entirely possible to run the LiPos down so low they swell and could out-gas and catch on fire.

A 2S LiPo 8.4v pack vs a 7c NIMH pack is massive. The LiPo will maintain higher voltage under load, and drop significantly more current when you hammer it. You'll also get way more run-time.

VXL has the LiPo safety built in.

I'd also get a 2S 5000mah pack because you won't want 3S all the time.

3S in a 10th scale is almost stupid levels of power. 2S is about right for bashing. Plenty of punch, not insane power levels.

That 7c nimh pack would be lucky to drop 30-40amps when you hammer it.

A 2S LiPo pack will drop upwards of 150amps without an issue. The torque you will get out of the motor on 2S will shock you, no pun intended.

A 3S will turn it into a wheelie / backflip machine that can't keep its front wheels on the ground.

Many of them, and many more sold/trade.

A 3S in a TC4 would probably be capable of 70-90mph if you could even get it going straight. The only problem is a crack in the pavement is like a 6" curb to a car like that.

I have many cars, small and large.

Small Guys that run on a 2S or 3S battery: Tamiya Bearhawk, Richman's Toys 1989 Batmobile, Hyper 10TT truggy, Team Lose Mini 8ight buggy)

Big guys that run on a 4S to 8S battery : OFNA Nexx8 1/8th buggy, OFNA CRT-Pro Truggy, OFNA Hyper One Seven on-road.

You'll need a LiPo compatible charger. For the Stampede, honestly you can't really go wrong with Traxxas EZ Peak charger, and the Traxxas LiPo's. They aren't that expensive, and will give you a ton of oomph over the NiMH battery. Plus, Traxxas has already done the work of ensuring the battery you buy will work in your Traxxas car. They even have a video for for your stampede already. :)

As for what's in the Lambo body? Its a nitro car I converted to brushless. Its basically a Traxxas XO-1 before Traxxas ever built the XO-1. Same motor/esc system. 30" nose to tail and will hit 100mph in about 5 seconds. Castle Mamba Max Monster ESC, Castle 1717 1580kv motor, and it runs on a 6S 22.2v 5000mah battery combo. I've data logs on top speed runs where it pulls almost 10,000watts from the battery during full throttle. Thats basically 13hp in a 11lb car.

The motor on the right is the same size motor as what's in your Stampede. The middle motor is what is in my Nexx8 1/8th scale buggy. The big monster on the left is the what powers my big 1/8th truggy and the Lambo.

I haven't had to buy batteries in a while, but apparently Gens Ace has come a long way. I wasn't disappointed with them at all. They lasted a long time and I put them through hell, they are 8 years old now and probably have well over 400 cycles on them. They are unfortunately well past their life cycle now, they can't support the same loads as they used to and voltage drops fast after a single hard pull.

However, my much smaller GensAce Soft packs for the smaller cars are still strong as fuck. They'll flip the Lose Mini 8ight on its lid and it'll still exceed 50mph no problem. A car the size of your hand should not do 50mph.

If you don't mind soldering on a new connector to match your existing ESC this Gens Ace will keep you super happy.

3S Lipo: Amazon product

2S Lipo: Amazon product

This I the 6S setup powering my big 1/8th truggy. I often forget just how god damned big it is. Here's me screwing around. Driving it with the left hand, and filming with the right hand.

Good info here. My Stampede is down to 1 good 7-cell now, so I might go with a 2S set-up now instead on it if it gives more run time.

That’s what I’m going to do and 3s on the tc4 when I feel like putting bus lengths on my neighbors

First I have to put in a 10t motor brushless and programmer in the tc4.

Like a 3000?
3000 should be fine. Most likely similar run time to your 7 cell when it was new. Will be much lighter too.

Your 7 cell is 391 grams.

The 5000mah 2S Lipo pack I posted is only 304 grams. So even the 5000mah is almost 25% lighter than your current battery and will give you probably another 10 minutes run-time. Assuming you got about 15 minutes out of the original 7 cell pack.

Finally picked up a Lipo 3 cell and new street tires for my stampede and all I can say is wow. I can’t give it full throttle cause the front wheels go up at top speed. I did manage to strap my draggy and phone to it and I think it’s got 50 mph in her

I got her to almost 46 mph and I can’t give it full throttle cause the front wheels go up at almost top speed.

I busted a wheel on my team associated tc4 and I can’t to see what mph I get out of the awd.
