🔧 BUILD LikeABauce302's 427 SBF Twin Turbo Build. 404 Error: LS Content Not Found

General Information

Since I've been on this site for awhile now, I figured its time to post up the project I've been working on. Some of you may recognize the car. The previous owner raced it quite a bit and ran it in the IMSM series.

Here is my 90 Mustang LX hatchback:

Mod list:

There are probably a few things I'm missing. I bought the car in December of 2009 and it's been a work in progress ever since. It was a solid well built car when I bought it, but it needed some work to make it street driveable.

I've still got some work to go. Before spring I'm going to freshen up the rear end and I'm planning on installing a Holley EFI system. If I have enough time and funds left over, I want to install a roll cage of some sort since I'm planning on running at the drag strip quite a bit.

Thanks!

It's 304 stainless, so I will be TIG welding everything, with a backpurge. For the sake of speed, I may bring in some help with final welding. I've had a couple friends who are better welders than me volunteer to help me out. I'm just trying to get everything fit and tacked together for now.

Tig party?!

After wasting more time than I care to admit, tonight I got the passenger side wastegate in place. This side decided to fight me and I couldn't get the 90 degree elbow shaped as nicely as I would have preferred. I had a small gap to fill as I welded it to the larger pipe between the header and turbo. Oh well. At least it's under the car and not very visible. With this being my first turbo fab project, I'm sure there will be some things I will want to redo or refine next year, after I've had a chance to drive the car.

Still doing fab work, but making progress a little by little as I find time. I have the hot side all fit and tacked together up to the firewall.

Since this is a street car, I routed the wastegate dumps back into the downpipes. I now have both downpipes finished up to the midplate and I'm ready to start working on the exhaust. I'm going to be running 3.5" straight back through a pair of Borla XR1 mufflers and dumping before the rear axle. As much as I would like to run tailpipes, I can't make them fit with the anti roll bar I have on the car.

Go as far as you can, I am betting it is loud but hopefully just to a dull roar.
Yeah I'm guessing it's going to be pretty loud too. I may end up putting in resonators before the mufflers to help tone it down just a little more.

I also forgot to add that I got fuel injectors for it and put them in place with my BBRC fuel rails. I plan to run 93 octane on the street and C16 at the track, but my buddy who's going to help me tune it talked me into a set of 2200 CC injectors that will allow me to run E85 if I choose to in the future.

Thanks!

I'm still planning on pulling the engine and everything out to paint the engine bay, but I'm beginning to regret not painting it from the beginning. I figured I would just scratch and chip things during fabrication. I wasn't wrong, but man it's going to be rough taking it all apart just as warm weather is here

You'll probably like the price of E85 over C16, C16 prices bugged me the last time I used it.
I was running C12 with my old setup, so I'm somewhat conditioned to paying for race gas. I know C16 is a few dollars more.

I chose to run it on gas so I don't have to worry about finding E85 when I'm out driving it. I'd like to drive it on the street as much as I can. The smart thing to do would be to setup my Holley EFI with a flex fuel sensor, which I'll probably do soon after I get it up and running. For now I just want to hear it fire up and get it movable under its own power.
