🔧 BUILD LikeABauce302's 427 SBF Twin Turbo Build. 404 Error: LS Content Not Found

General Information

Since I've been on this site for awhile now, I figured its time to post up the project I've been working on. Some of you may recognize the car. The previous owner raced it quite a bit and ran it in the IMSM series.

Here is my 90 Mustang LX hatchback:

Mod list:

Engine:
-Stock block bored .040" over
-Stock crank
-Forged rods
-Forged pistons
-Balanced, machined, and assembled by Opel Engineering
-Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads
-Edelbrock Performer RPM II Intake
-Basically your typical stock block H/C/I SBF

Transmission:
-Freddy Brown Built AOD
-Manual valve body
-Transbrake
-3200 RPM stall converter

Front Suspension:
-AJE K-member and A-Arms
-94/95 Mustang spindles
-Moroso Trick springs
-Lakewood 90/10 shocks
-UPR Castor/Camber plates

Rear Suspension:
-TRZ double adjustable upper control arms
-TRZ single adjustable lower control arms
-stock springs
-Lakewood 70/30 shocks

Chassis and Rearend:
-Welded full length subframe connectors
-Welded torque boxes
-Aluminum driveshaft and safety loop
-Custom 9" rear end
-Roll cage soon to be installed

Brakes:
-Maximum Motorsports manual conversion kit
-94 Cobra master cylinder
-Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve
-Maximum Motorsports braided lines
-99 to 04 GT brakes all around

Wheels and Tires:
-Chrome Pony R Wheels
-Rear: 17x10 with 275/40/17 M/T ET Street Radials
-Front: 17x5.5 (narrowed by Weldcraft) with M&H Racemaster Radial Front Runners

There are probably a few things I'm missing. I bought the car in December of 2009 and it's been a work in progress ever since. It was a solid well built car when I bought it, but it needed some work to make it street driveable.

I've still got some work to go. Before spring I'm going to freshen up the rear end and I'm planning on installing a Holley EFI system. If I have enough time and funds left over, I want to install a roll cage of some sort since I'm planning on running at the drag strip quite a bit.

Did some more work on the car this past weekend. The passenger side turbo is in. I need to finish making supports to hold the weight of the turbos and then I'll move on to mocking up exhaust and cold side piping. I also need to figure out the best way to cut holes for my wastegates. I need to get some decent hole saws and experiment with some scrap tubing on my drill press.

Other than needing a V-band flange, I finished fitting and tacking together the driver's side down pipe this weekend. I also braced the turbo to the frame, so the header and hot side isn't holding all of the weight.

I went with 3.5" tubing. I'm not sure if I'm going to install a 3.5" cutout and neck it down to 3" after the cutout, or run 3.5" all the way to the back of the car. I need to get the transmission back in and see how much room I have.

This week I'll get started on bracing the passenger side turbo and then get started on that down pipe.

Life would be much harder without harbor freight. Looks good man.

Thanks!

Looking great Matt! You going to be migging everything or tigging it all?

It's 304 stainless, so I will be TIG welding everything, with a backpurge. For the sake of speed, I may bring in some help with final welding. I've had a couple friends who are better welders than me volunteer to help me out. I'm just trying to get everything fit and tacked together for now.

I've been on the lookout for my own garage with a living quarters. Having a big garage with a lift has spoiled me. At least if I stay in the area, I can always haul my scrap heaps to the parents house when I need lift access.
MY next place 100% needs higher ceilings for a lift or 2. I think a 4 post would be amazing for the sake of storing 2 cars in one slot. What areas are you looking at?

I've mostly been looking at the suburbs along RT. 59 from Wheaton/Winfield area up to Algonquin. I just want to be west of 294 because I'm tired of driving on it. I'm pretty flexible at this point because it's looking like I won't have to commute to my office more than 2-3 days a week ever again.

Back at it today after being sick on and off for the last 3 weeks. I started on the passenger side downpipe and got as far as I feel comfortable before needing to put the starter and transmission back in to make sure I have enough clearance.

I also got the driver's side wastegate in place. This was a pretty tedious task. It took forever shaping the wastegate tube to fit over the up pipe. I was having a hard time fixturing the up pipe on my drill press, so ended up using my crappy Black and Decker cordless hand drill and a 2" hole saw to cut the hole for the wastegate. Surprisingly that worked great. A good quality holesaw with an underpowered cordless drill kept the speed down and also didn't kick back and destroy my hand anytime the holesaw got stuck. I plan to add a small gusset on the wastegate tube for a little extra strength.
