🔧 BUILD LikeABauce302's 427 SBF Twin Turbo Build. 404 Error: LS Content Not Found

General Information

Since I've been on this site for awhile now, I figured its time to post up the project I've been working on. Some of you may recognize the car. The previous owner raced it quite a bit and ran it in the IMSM series.

Here is my 90 Mustang LX hatchback:

Mod list:

Engine:
-Stock block bored .040" over
-Stock crank
-Forged rods
-Forged pistons
-Balanced, machined, and assembled by Opel Engineering
-Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads
-Edelbrock Performer RPM II Intake
-Basically your typical stock block H/C/I SBF

Transmission:
-Freddy Brown Built AOD
-Manual valve body
-Transbrake
-3200 RPM stall converter

Front Suspension:
-AJE K-member and A-Arms
-94/95 Mustang spindles
-Moroso Trick springs
-Lakewood 90/10 shocks
-UPR Castor/Camber plates

Rear Suspension:
-TRZ double adjustable upper control arms
-TRZ single adjustable lower control arms
-stock springs
-Lakewood 70/30 shocks

Chassis and Rearend:
-Welded full length subframe connectors
-Welded torque boxes
-Aluminum driveshaft and safety loop
-Custom 9" rear end
-Roll cage soon to be installed

Brakes:
-Maximum Motorsports manual conversion kit
-94 Cobra master cylinder
-Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve
-Maximum Motorsports braided lines
-99 to 04 GT brakes all around

Wheels and Tires:
-Chrome Pony R Wheels
-Rear: 17x10 with 275/40/17 M/T ET Street Radials
-Front: 17x5.5 (narrowed by Weldcraft) with M&H Racemaster Radial Front Runners

There are probably a few things I'm missing. I bought the car in December of 2009 and it's been a work in progress ever since. It was a solid well built car when I bought it, but it needed some work to make it street driveable.

I've still got some work to go. Before spring I'm going to freshen up the rear end and I'm planning on installing a Holley EFI system. If I have enough time and funds left over, I want to install a roll cage of some sort since I'm planning on running at the drag strip quite a bit.

Nothing really photo worthy to post, but the engine is out of the car. The next few weekends I have to make New radiator mounting brackets, and I'll be working on cleaning it and painting the engine bay. Hoping to have this car making some noise sooner than later. Work has had me traveling a lot, so it's been tough to find time to work on it.

Last time I was looking at an empty engine bay, I was questioning if I would be able to do so much fab work by myself. Feels good to be at this point now where all of the fab work is finished and I'm getting closer to final assembly.

Hopefully some updates coming this holiday season. I have some time off of work next week, and so far have 2 weeks of time off scheduled in December. Work has been really hectic, so hopefully I can actually use my vacation time. It's been really hard to get any time off. This past weekend I visited the car and made room to work on it again. My dad had moved the car out of the way because he needed the lift and was also doing some work on the ceiling and in the attic of the garage.

Nothing picture worthy, but over the weekend, I cut off the lower radiator mounts on the Motion Raceworks tubular support. I made some new mounts that will fit better with my radiator. I also did some sanding and cleanup in the engine bay and ordered paint. I'm hoping to get the engine bay painted, or at least have the color coat down by the end of next week.

One potential hang up that I think I'm going to have to address is the driver's side midpipe is routed really close to the shift lever on the side of the transmission. I know I need to put a kevlar blanket around the trans, so I think I'm going to have some interference. I may have to re-make that midpipe. Not really a big deal, but sucks having another delay when I'm already really short on time to work on the car.

I've finally had some time to work on the car in the last few days. Today I just finished spraying the color coat in the engine bay. I'm sitting here waiting for it to dry and starting to look at alternator mounting options. At a quick glance, I think I can put the alternator up above the front plate on the passenger side. I'll be making some of my own bracketry for a turn buckle tensioner.

Never thought of using aluminum foil when painting, great idea!
It works great for masking weird shapes and oddball things. Perfect for an engine bay. I'm not going for a showcar finish here, so I didn't go through the trouble of removing the k-member, master cylinder, and harnesses.

I assume due to location of headers that the alternator cannot be low mounted??

After 4 coats of clear. It turned out really good. Not perfect, but good enough for a race car. I'll let it sit in the warm garage overnight and then buff it tomorrow. I should have the engine, trans, and turbos back in by the end of next week.

Sounds like you're making solid progress on your build! It's great that the clear coat turned out well, even if it's not perfect. With a race car, functionality often takes priority over absolute perfection. Buffing it should give it a nice finish. Keep up the good work, and having the engine, transmission, and turbos back in by the end of next week sounds like an exciting milestone!
