Yesterday afternoon at Lowes I watched a guy load bags of sand and brick pavers into the back of his Cherokee. He was just starting when I walked in and I said, "that load is way beyond what the car can do."

It'll be fine, I've done this before.

"Ok."

As I"m walking out he has just finished. "Told you it would be fine". The cherokee looked like a dog dragging its ass across the carpet. I peeked underneath. "Yeah, cause you're sitting on the bump stomps."

He drives out the east access which has a rise then a big dip before you hit the street. I could hear some part of the vehicle scraping the ground as he left. NFG.

think about it, 4000lb trailer, should have 10% minimum tongue weight.. so 400lbs.

1083 capacity
-400lbs tongue weight
-240lbs? i dont remember what you weigh this week but you'll tell me.

443lbs remain. hopefully you didn't need to bring a 220lb friend or two to the track also cuz they can't bring a bottle of water with for inside the truck

basically any four of us can max out the raptor payload capacity just sitting in it

“this 5 seater $65k truck is designed for off roading, so long as you don’t have any passengers with you”

lol

yep. pretty fucking nuts.

all raptors should have a factory installed one of these:

Sometimes you just gotta send it.

Scrambler in the back, me and RAM-ROD RAM-ROD in the truck.

100lbs "overweight". Drove just fine. Stopped just fine. Absolutely zero fucks given.

Shit makes me laugh because you take the fenders off, put different leafs/springs on it and suddenly it's a perfectly normal F150 with 32493540679187264902348761234lbs tow rating for a half ton and everyone here starts swinging off it like it's the holy fucking grail.

For what it's worth, because now I'm curious. SuperCab is 980lbs. SuperCrew is 1337 lbs (for MY2014)

giphy.gif

do you know how to tell cab size from a ford vin?

for that pic i posted.

its for sure a 2017 raptor with that tire size/vin but i dont know cab.

also it's surprising to me the supercab is less than the supercrew, that should be reversed unless somehow the supercab is heavier than the crew? is that real?

This is why when people make fun of Raptor's tow rating I always fucking laugh. 99.9999999999999% sure Ford just pulled these numbers out of their ass to prevent guys doing dumb shit with the squishy suspension.

Besides being a longer wheelbase, the SCrew also has stiffer leaf springs (guys with SCabs specifically buy the SCrews to get more lift in the rear instead of buying $1500 3rd party leafs). Yet when you look at a 2014 F150 with a 5.0 suddenly it has 3k payload and can tow 13000lbs. Fucking okretard.

As for the 17+ trucks, no idea and literally don't care because I'll never own one until they put a V8 in it.

this is fucking amazing. fuck new vehicle forums.

Raptors have a ton of wheel travel due to soft leaf springs. You can't have both with leaf springs.

WAT

The only reason the payload is so little is because the total vehicle weight will exceed DOT limit for the class.

:bowrofl:

Payload capacities have a certain safety factor built in, so in reality your truck can haul more than it's rated for. How large that safety factor is, is anyone's guess. However, your truck is fine, just don't make a habit of doing it regularly.

giphy.gif

backs it up with

No I wasn't kidding, son.

But I didn't make my statement clear enough so I will embellish my statement.
There are three “Gross Vehicle Weight Rating” classes for pickup trucks with just four tires 1, 2, 3.
These classes exist for safety regulation, commercial designation, and registration purposes.
There are some states that won't let you register the Raptor with passenger plates because of the GVWR.
Then you have states that go by curb weight of the vehicle and the Raptor is 6,000+ making it a commercial vehicle in some states.
Most of use get away from this because your DMV didn't pick up that it's a Raptor, it usually shows up as a F150 which is lighter.

Having said all that, the Raptor and Limited come with the small 5 1/2' bed so it will have the lowest capacity base on geometry.
The springs are only slightly different in each truck configuration. Bed length and wheel spacing account for most of the GVWR.
F-150 has a maximum payload capacity of between 1,641 lbs and 2,320 lbs. (Raptor is less)
https://www.kimbercreekford.com/blog/2017-ford-f-150-towing-and-payload-capacities/

Ford has to cover their ass with the Raptor and safety factors because you know damn well people are over loading the Raptor and going off-roading and camping.

So going over the 900 +/- payload on stock springs is not going to kill your Raptor if you drive it nice

:bowrofl:

this guy is fucking retarded

$1400, pretty simple solution

that helps ride/stability of course, but doesn't legally/technically increase your truck's payload capacity. really no way to increase that and i would fucking haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate to get caught overweight like so many departments are going after lately.

that's a straight DICK PUNCH of a ticket.

aren't those SUPER unique trucks though?

like extended wheelbase supercab long beds?

they look weird as fuck when i see one.
thing has to have a wheel base 3' longer than a raptor.

GVWR is made up and the numbers don't matter.

I stand by my previous conviction of buy the biggest trailer you can find and just fucking send it because every other idiot on the road does the same. Then I can watch you on MegaDrivingSchool tossing your shit sideways into the ditch.
