My mower is 7 years old. Never changed the oil, never changed the plug, nor sharpened the blades. She fires on the first pull.
Just because you defer the maintenance doesn’t mean it doesn’t need it. In fact I make a living off people doing that, but with their $60k vehicles

Me too.

However, for $199 initial cost, I figured if I got 4 years out of it without maintenance, I can buy a new one and do the same thing all over again.

Briggs makes an engine advertised to never need an oil change/just top it off

I change oil every 25 hours, and my 32 year old Toro still fires on first pull. Commercial grade Kawasaki engine FTW.
Kinda like our old Chrysler mini-van. No need to change it, it just burned it off, so I kept replenishing it, which in effect, was it's oil change. :D

They've become another planned obsolescence disposable item. Why bother to change the oil if its just going to fail at a predetermined time anyway, regardless. I noticed in the mid to late 2000s quality took a massive shit. That's kinda why I prefer to drive my old but working junk into the ground as long as parts are available.

If anybody does end up getting an electric lawnmower I have a good tip for them though- Lithium batteries are most comfortable at the same temps that humans are comfortable. They also don’t like being fully charged or discharged for long periods of time. To make the batteries last longer consider keeping them inside the house when not in use and just half charge them after use until you’re ready to use them.

I typically charge them a few hours before I cut the lawn. I’ll wake up at like 6 or 7 and put the battery on. Then by 8 when I want to mow they are ready to go. My main mower battery is 6 years old and showing no signs of degradation so far.

Just got my veggie gardens built as well. We are having a service come by and fill them. Fucking 4 yards of top soil is like $600 including the labor To fill them. Worth it if I don’t have to lift a finger. A 2’ by 6.5 foot bed and 2’ by 8’. Also 32“ tall so I don’t have to bend over to weed and cultivate.

They’re making a healthy profit there. The topsoil is probably less than $200. I get it though, it’s nice to not have to worry about it.

They quoted it as $300 for the soil, the rest is delivery and labor. I just said fuck it since I won’t have to deal with a giant pile of dirt in my driveway for a few days and I don’t need to deal with shoveling 50 wheelbarrows and sending them down the hill to my backyard

I desperately need to do this. What dethacher do you have?
Literally the cheapest one I could find on Amazon. I went even cheaper than the highly acclaimed sunjoe. It’s called “green works”. Absolutely no complaints though. It worked exactly as promised and seems sturdy in all the right places.

Someone got a deal... This sale looked legit also. Guy likely got flooded with hundreds of messages. Probably should have made the effort to find a trailer and buy this. I saw it a few min after posting. Looks like the seller is playing the dibs game also.

If I sell mine it’ll likely be cheaper than that for TCG. Not sure how mine stacks up though, it’s an LX266 with like 240 hours.

South of Wisconsin.
Raked and picked up sticks as best I could on the other half of the backyard and mowed it at 5”. Shit was 10” tall.. lol. Also gave a once over 4” cut to the front as there were patches of tall grass and some dandelions. Tomorrow morning going to mow it all at 4”. All the neighbors have fuck tons of dandelions so yeah I don’t feel soo bad about my backyard being a sea of yellow.. lol.

Neighbor saw me outside and recommended me to cut my grass since HP likes to ticket for too long of grass. I have my IV out but still have a drain in. Can’t lift too much, but I can walk behind a self propel. ?

And holy shit did I chew through batteries. 3 full 7.5AH, 2 6AH, and needed to use a 4th 7.5 to finish the job. Thank goodness I got the snowblower with the 7.5s and another fast charger. Took me 3 hours since I kept stopping for breaks as to not stress my body too much.
