My sister played travel fast pitch softball. The high school let them use the far field, with the exception we had to take care of it. My dad made a field grooming take to drag around to clean the infield and I used the neighbor's mower to do the outfield. We had to kick the school JV &V baseball off our field plenty of times because they liked ours better. had to have been around 1996 ish give or take.

Also, note to self for next season...don’t store push mower vertically over winter :hsughlol:

Motherfucker leaked all of its oil out and then fogged the neighborhood upon startup...should’ve pulled the plug and at least cleaned it off but NFG. It was free.99

Yeah I've played that game plenty of times with stuff I bring home from auction. I stack them vertically or some weird shit just to make more space on the trailer and then its like a mosquito fogger when I fire them up even after a few hours or a day sitting like that.

Picked this up today. The one I brought home needs a lot more. This one was running and cutting and I think a pretty good deal. 160 bucks. Hydrostatic trans. New battery. Briggs engine. In happy. I just needed something to mow ASAP. My grass was getting out of control IMG_20180508_171207.jpg

I know the feeling.

I have been going over my riding mower because it wouldn't start this season. Changed the oil, cleaned the carb, new plug, new air filter, replaced the starter and battery.

Problem is the mower still won't start even with starting fluid sprayed into the carb. It seems to turn over a little, blow exhaust through the carb and out the intake and then get compression and stop. This repeats. I'm thinking a valve? Motor is an 18.5 hp B+S OHV Intek.

Any suggestions on the motor are appreciated. I hired a friend to cut the grass this week and will keep using him until I figure out which way to go. New self propelled Honda is $400, rider is much more. I have been watching the auction near me to see if something shows up.

For all the lawn implement peeps daturbosix what are your thoughts on a John Deere L100 lawn tractor?

Found one on CL last night in Batavia, includes a 46" snow plow, for $900.

Looks like they were a model of JD's 100 series, built from 2003 to 2005 and seem to have fairly decent ratings from the few reviews I can find.

I just have a good sized yard that was being done by my Crapsman tractor until I busted out a mandrel last year. So I don't need something with fancy PTO's or top level stuff. Just something my Son can get on and mow that lawn with.

Jeff will say they are junk, and after owning one id probably say the same. (my L130 burns oil) I bought for $900 and it had under 200 hours on it and minty. The plow setup is worth a few hundred bucks but id would buy something with a hydro trans. L100 is bottom of the line and only worth $400-500 or so IMO.

Ok. Thank you. I just saw a JD tractor at the price and my ears perked up. Normally they're well out of a range I want to spend. :D

I guess if I do get one, what series are a decent one. I'm not overly concerned about hyrdo-static trans (would be nice), but not necessary.

Another one I came up with, an LT160?

NO. theyre throw aways. great for someone that isnt looking keep a machine 20 years. but even still... theyre not really designed to be "repaired". its a lawn tractor... not a real tractor.

i can get you into a quality cub or deere that will last you your lifetime for about $1000 and you wont ever have to purchase another machine before you die.
Outlaw can agree.

How old would it be?

I wasn't set on getting a Cub or Deere. I just happened to stumble across that one I originally posted.

I'm actually probably just going to stick with another Craftsman/Husky because all my accessories from the current one are all the same. And since I do take care of them, they do (whatever I get), last.

Explain more about big box JD's?

There are certain low end models, like the ones Daturbosix describes, that you can buy at HD/Lowes/etc aka big box stores. They were built cheaper to be able to compete with the other models those stores sell. "real" JDs are available at the dealer and cost more because built to last.

certain model JD and Cubs were only offered through lowes, HD, ect.. NOT AVAILABLE through a JD or Cub dealer. meaning they were made cheap for bs consumer grade sales.

My L130 the Original owner bought from Shorewood JD and it has a sticker from it. But im pretty sure you can buy the same from Home Depot?
