PRODUCED BY MOTHER FUCKING MARTIN SCORSESE.

Script by Todd Philips, set in 80s Gotham. WITHOUT Leto. I have the weirdest boner right now.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC are in the early stages of developing at Joker origin movie, according to Deadline. The site says that The Hangoverā€˜s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mileā€˜s Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, to be produced by Martin Scorsese and Phillips.

The Joker origin movie will be the first film under a new banner that Warner Bros. has yet to name, but which will expand the canon of DC Comics properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the characters.

The Joker has previously been played by Jack Nicholson in Batman, by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. The site adds that Leto will reprise the character in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, Gotham City Sirens. This new film, however, will feature a different actor, possibly younger.

Also of note is the setting. Deadline claims that ā€œthe intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-ā€™80s Gotham City that isnā€™t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorseseā€™s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.ā€

While itā€™s unknown when this Joker origin movie would be released, Phillips and Silver are already writing the script.

That wouldn't be good.

This has me intrigued though. The only issue I see is finding someone who could be as good as ledger was. Was such a dirty and gritty version of the joker that we haven't seen before that just made him probably the greatest batman villain to date.

The magic trick with the pencil. Was not expecting that in TDK.

I'm having a hard time thinking about who would actually be good. He has to be funny on top of being crazy. I don't think Gyllenhaal could put off anything other than the weird crazy dude.
