Well, been wanting to join the much loved and raved about MQB platform family for awhile now and was on the hunt for an S3 (wife and I prefer the sedan look over hatch, but was open to a Golf R for sure). At the time I was dead set on a CPO S3 and after searching for a few weeks couldn't figure out why there are ZERO a3 and s3 cpo cars in the entire country (found out now its because of an airbag recall).
Anyways, I always like to explore options and stumbled upon this car well below market and offered as a CPO car. Wife had a mk1 in college and I've always loved the baby r8 look of the mk3s, but they were always so high up in the market and on the rare side for a find. The color was exactly what I was hoping for and long story short, everything lined up (included extending the CPO out) for us to get it.
Flew out to Hartford Saturday morning and was home by lunch Sunday this past weekend. It isn't the most practical car, but it can hold quite a bit and the rear seats fold down for a full pass through of the rear trunk/hatch door, and we have a Forester as the other useful car.
Ideally wanted a Black Optics package, but at the pricepoint, can't be too picky and I can make my own aftermarket pretty easily from researching. Plans are to do some exterior mods (tint, black optics like) and maybe your basic power stuff (intake/exhaust/piggyback), and maybe a set of 18s with more sidewall and width on the tire.
