🔧 BUILD Jimbo's new DDD - Daily Dad Driver. V: 2019 VW Arteon SEL Premium R-Line

General Information

Stopped by the dealer at lunch time yesterday, told the sales guy I didn't really want to waste his time, as I already viewed the car online and snuck over on a Sunday with the wife to check it out. Had all the gizmos and gadgets I wanted, so knew it'd be a solid car. Did a bunch of deep web diving and forum research, again, all positive. So the dealer came back and offered me a solid number, but a hair off of what I really wanted. Told them I'd go home and discuss it with the wife and follow-up. Texted him to see if he could sharpen the pencil a bit more, he came up with another $500, so it would net me $12k back in hand. Finished dinner, texted the salesman and said I'd be on my way. Drove over to the dealer and traded the Ram in last night. Bought the thing without even driving it

The big driver towards the VW Arteon was the rear legroom. Set the driver seat in a comfortable position, then I hopped in the back. I had so much damn legroom. Cars.com reviews were all great for car seats. After buying it, swapped my sons booster seat bottom in, kid can kick his legs out and still not touch the back of my seat. Put my daughters rear-facing in (Clek Foonf - which is a big ol' bitch, but safe AF), and the passenger seat can be moved to a comfortable position, even for me, without it hitting the car seat back.

The color is called Manganese Grey Metallic, which has some good depth and works well with the body lines.

Drove the thing home, enjoying the comforts of the cooled seat and the back massage feature. I'm going to use that massage feature every fucking time I drive, it's amazing. I'm going to need to sit in this thing for an hour or two and finger-fuck all the gizmos and gadgets, learning what everything does. I'll also need to read up on the different drive modes and custom settings (suspension, steering, trans shifts, etc).

Current Mods/parts: mud flaps, 25% IRX window tint on the sides and back/25% on the windshield/50% on the sunroof, add-on homelink VW mirror (this bitch had everything, but no homelink), APR 93 octane tune, APR ignition coils, and one step colder NGK spark plugs. APR turbo inlet pipe, APR carbon fiber intake pipe, APR pex CAI, APR subframe insert, Rolloface 6 piston 14" front and rear brakes, H&R lowering springs, H&R rear sway bar, Moog rear sway bar links, 5mm spacers in the rear, 20x9 Vossen HF3 wheels with 255/35ZR20 Michelin PS4's, stock wheels with winter tires Vredestein Wintrac Pro, dynamic mirror turn signals, 2021 steering wheel and air bag. OE Roof bars and Inno Shadow 16 roof cargo box.

Here's some shitty pics for the time being...

Plainfield
Digging the specs on those Stinger GT's now that I'm diving into them. As well as coming across your posts on the Stinger forums lol.

I may make you miss the VAG with the extra 4" of rear legroom :jg:
I probably would've gone with the Arteon, but the 2.5t Stinger just came out, and I could get it new with AWD cheaper than a comparable new Arteon. The newest Arteon with the HP bump is a compelling vehicle also.

Yeah, the 3.3tt Stinger GT is a good step up in performance, especially when tuned. Still, I'm satisfied with the combination of value, performance, fuel economy, and versatility with just the 2.5. The Stinger GT 3.3 owners usually look down quite a bit on the 4 cylinders, but whatever... :)

Exactly! That's where I'm at with this thing, but figured I'd add just a few more touches (and I can't leave anything alone either). But, this will pretty much be it, as I don't want to start going with E20/30/85 and messing with HPFP, manifold port injection, and all that other jazz.

Well, I ordered the Turbo muffler delete this morning as well. The CAI is delayed until the second week of July, so I'll hold on installing all the other stuff that arrived today, and just do it all at the same time.

But, will toss the pendulum mount and subframe insert on now, before heading to lunch.

Also, just ordered some rear footwell lights and seat bracket retainers. Why, you might ask... because it was $15 for the kit. Here's how it'll look (same LED's as the front footwell lights)

I think I have a muffler delete, new, sitting somewhere in the house.

Also, I totally forgot to mail your stuff out....
Too late now, I already ordered it and got shipping info LOL

Yeah, mail that stuff out so I can sell it to blue-sun blue-sun when the CTR is too rich for his blood. However, also no rush on mailing it out, because, FUCK IE.

I guess I'll fill y'all in on the IE story.

I buy the CAI from Mook Mook and he was missing a grommet. So I figure, what the hell, I ordered a new air filter from Integrated Engineering... and pay $27 for shipping. So, I reach out to them as they didn't have the grommet on their site, and ask if I can buy it, and they can toss it in with the air filter order. They give me an invoice for $10 and tell me they can't add it to the filter shipment, as orders are picked upon arrival or some fucking BS. So they charged me $4.12 to ship it. Fuck that, fuck them. I paid for it and decided, I'm not going to run that fucking shit. I then proceeded to order an APR one, in pex (thanks to Mook Mook recommendation and saved $200 over carbon fiber), and just kept clicking "add to cart" on a bunch of other shit.

I'm petty, but that's terrible customer service.

The End.

Supposedly, the CTR will debut/be unveiled this weekend at the Mid Ohio Honda Indy 2000, so I'll know if it's too rich for my blood or if I should spend all this hot wheels money I just made on the GTI or not.

If it looks tits, then I'll wait and have some added down payment $ for the CTR. If not, then I gotta decide what do I want to do with the GTI.

So I bought the OBDEleven Pro dongle and downloaded the app. Backed up all the modules before changing anything and enabled a bunch of random and cool shit. Highly recommend to my fellow VAG's Mook Mook blue-sun blue-sun washer fluid, etc.

I changed a handful of stupid things: 30 ambient light colors, throttle response from standard to responsive, fan level displayed when in auto, disable seatbelt warning chime, 5-flash turn signals instead of 3, refuel mile display at all times not just at low fuel, pulsing start button, all windows up or down (no matter your distance from the car) with the remote, audible lock/unlock beep, puddle lights when mirrors folded, steering wheel vibration for lane assist, and a few other things.

Will tackle the long coding another time to enable the high beams to do the cool Euro dazzle shit.
