🔧 BUILD Jeff's 2020 Twister Orange Mustang | Whipple Powa

General Information

I am now the 3rd owner of this 1,960 mile 2020 Twister Orange cookie cutter GT. It is a premium 401a car with performance pack, A10, active exhaust, Recaro seats, and the Bang & Olufson sound system. Car has the digital instrument cluster which I love!

A little history on the car....first owner bought the car and brought it to Lebanon Ford @122 miles. Lebanon Ford then installed a Whipple stage 2 kit, id1050x injectors, MMR billet oil pump and crank gears, and the Corsa active exhaust. This owner sold the car in May of last year with about 700 miles.

Owner 2 is a total gear head. Guy has worked for ZF Group for 25+ years and his hobby is building street cars. The shop he had on his property was fricken awesome. Id say it was about 50' x 100' and had 3 lifts with an upstairs office loft. Anyways, this guy bought the car and installed a Fore fuel system, 3.15 pumpkin, TSP longtubes, and some BMR vertical links and cradle lockout. He then had Lund tune it with an nGuage. Says he had it at the track in October and it went 9.8 @ 146 on a 2nd gear leave.

My immediate plans are to lower it about an inch, and get some street wheels. I kept my old Billet Specialties drag setup so Im good there. Next winter I'll have the A10 built and turn it up a bit.

I actually made a video of how it worked, I just cut a small slot in the top and bottom of the tube going to the grill and made a thin piece of plastic that slid into the slots for normal low speed driving, at the track I’d just pulll it out for the ram air effect

Ha! Ingenious! Thanks man. If I have issues I’m going to copy that.
I’m not even sure if the gen3 mustangs have a maf so it may not even be a concern on a gen 3
They do.

They do, with the exception of Roush blower Gen 3's. Your issue is common with the JLT as the maf is very close to the end of the tube, which on any CAI will have MAF stability problems with airflow change through the filter. Even get it on cars when the fans kick on.

My blue car had a wide open grill NA with an Airaid and then with the Whipple. Never had any kind of driveability/tuning issues with either setup. Hopefully this is same way, but if not I owe Brett a beer for that great idea! Lol

It all depends on MAF placement, the JLT's are known to be the worst since they place the sensors pretty far down, where the airflow isn't very stabilized. JLT also had different versions of the tube, and types of filters, some with mesh in place to combat it. Where the idle is set also makes a difference believe it or not, the lower the idle, the slower the air speed going through the MAF. I've seen cars with air filters pushed to far up do it, and cars that go off 10% on fueling just by kicking on the fan on the dyno. I ran no air box and open grill on my '12 with a 5" CAI on motor and never had any issues either, which is suppose to be the worse combo.

BOTTLEFED BOTTLEFED here’s pics of the beefy front bumper to fender mounting. No zip ties here! Lol

The bumper tab gets sandwiched between the fender mount and this block that is secured with two studs and one of those plastic push pins in the middle.

Here it is all back together. Like I said, it would be VERY hard to fuck this up.

Whipple came through no more frayed hose. Can’t beat their customer service!

And wtf! A FRAM oil filter?! Lol Anyways, 10 fresh quarts of Amsoil and a nice Motorcraft filter were used this time.

Proud of you Jeff. Now let's see this thing on the ground! Quit stalling...
I need to play with the fitment. Probably gonna throw another spacer in the front and then the rear desperately needs the camber adjusted. Previous owner had it set to 0* and with the 325’s, let’s just say it looks goofy with the amount of poke

Think I have the camber close to where it needs to be. Still debating adding another spacer to the front struts to bring it up another 1/8”. Gonna sleep on it. Hopefully be able to get in for an alignment next week and she’s ready for action!

Looks really good, wheel color fits perfect too. I do agree with the front coming up a bit more. On the last Whipple car, we reinstalled stock front springs to get the height leveled with the back, the Whipples put a lot of weight up front.
I only have one 1/8” spacer there right now. It’s easy to install so I’ll try one more and if it needs a bit more I’ll add another. My tires are fairly short though and are the same diameter front/back at 26.7” so that’s what is contributing to a touch more wheel gap in back. My drag setup with 26” front and 28” rear will look perfect as the car sits now.
