I agree, for the most part my 600 is overkill, however when I WFH I need the speed for pushing large files back and forth. As many others have complained I'd like more outbound speed. I'd trade some of my 600 to get it, but Comcast doesn't really have the infrastructure to support it. Like a 450/150 would be great for me, or even a 300/300.

I could get Comcast's "gigabit" package, which is actually bullshit. It's 987Mbps down and 35 out. If you want "true" gigabit that's $300/mo from them. Horseshit when companies like Metronet offer gig/gig fiber for like $80.

Could be worse, like at my dad's. He's in rural SE Kentucky, running DSL on copper lines installed when Eisenhower was in office, and he's 21,500' from the hub/switch/office/whatever. He pays for a 5/2 package and on a good day get about 0.5/0.25, so 10%. If it's raining he basically gets nothing. He can't cancel because they refuse to redo his service based on distance. The cost to go to something like ViaSat is way too much for how little they offer in speed and data caps. Plus the latency is terrible, like starting at 250ms.

Waiting for Musk's StarLink to get the hell going so he can get that. Would be a massive improvement.

Don't think I posted in a while. I'm actually surprised a bit by my results. I've felt like the past week or two it's been dog slow. Might try again tonight but technically it's exactly what I should be getting. Even on wifi.

Also depends on the connection from the device to your Wi-Fi/router. For example my inbound ISP speed is faster than 802.11ac can transfer on 5Ghz. On wireless I’ll max out about 530-550Mbps, but my ISP is 720Mbps.

If I run the test wired (gigabit) I’ll get the max speed.

Wi-Fi will also impact the latency (increasing the value).

I get 59/10 on the WiFi on the phone in most of the house but it’s not consistent. Sometimes it just drops randomly. There are around 50 WiFi networks around here. Everything else in the house is wired and gets 230-250/10 on a Comcast 150/10 plan.
My 150 plan officially got bumped up to 200 within the last year. I think they increased a lot of their plans

Here's a good example. On the top is my 2016 MacBook on 5Ghz, connection speed of 867Mbps, and RSSI of -38 dBm. On the bottom is same MacBook, but wired to the router (wi-fi off). Both are with the neighbor and g/f pull high def video streams. One from Amazon (fire stick) and the other from youtube. Normally I'd see about 720 down.

So my 1 year promo pricing was up. I was paying 50 for 200/10 it was about to go up to 83. Oddly they offered me other promos online. 60 the same speed for 1 year and 12 month term. 60 for 300mbps with 1 year agreement. Obviously I bumped up my speed. I was pleasantly surprised to find out my upload doubled to a whopping 24mbps! I'll take it though!Screenshot_20200523-002929~2.png

So I've been getting fed up with poor Zoom call quality on my laptop. Decided I need to update the network card on my laptop. Considered getting a USB plug, but I think I'd rather just replace the card inside. No idea what I can upgrade to though.

This is my laptop.

Any help?
Hmm, that’s a tough one. It has 802.11ac with a 2x2 antenna set up. So theoretical max connect speed is 867Mbps, that should be plenty fast for video calls, even with it being half-duplex. Best case transfer speed should be about 40-50MBps, which can handle 2-3 uncompressed 1920x1080p streams.

What speed is the laptop connecting to your Wi-Fi at? Other thing you can try to eliminate the card as the issue is using the built in gigabit connector and go directly to the router, see if it makes a difference.

40-60 mb down/ 20 up.

Desktop wireless is pulling around 251 down /20 up. Paying for 300/20.

My conference calls have anywhere from 2-10 people sometimes up to 30 people.

If you do decide to upgrade the internal card, I believe HP is one of the manufacturers that whitelist the cards. Only certain cards are compatible and you may have to flash bios to unlock more.
That being said the hardware you have is capable of more. I'd trouble shoot why your connection is so slow

I was reading that. What's the best way to troubleshoot the speed cap? I was googling options but most went to troubleshooting the router and not helpful in checking the network card. WIth the costs of network cards so low, I'm open to just buying a new one anyway. How do I know what's compatible?

Update on internet, Wired connection on my laptop maxes out at 95/10 so I need to upgrade something. I did call spectrum as I have been getting 30% less than advertised pretty consistently for the past two months. They wanted to blame my router, it's a newer router and I've pulled up to 450 down before. Have a tech coming out on thursday.

Has anyone have experience with AT&T Fiber 1000? It's the same price as my Spectrum service not including the $10 modem rental so technically $10 more but it's 2.5x the speed of what I'm paying for now. How's AT&T's customer service?

Have you upgraded your drivers? You have a 10/100/1000 port there's no reason you should be hitting less than your desktop on wireless. How is it the modems fault when 1 device gets proper speed and another doesn't? You don't have a all in 1 gateway/modem do you?
Advertised speeds are 400 down/ 20 up. My Desktop has only been getting 250-300 max since the upgrade last summer. Running the spectrum modem, and a Linksys Nighthawk AC1900. When I last called to cancel they gave me a free bump from 100/10 to 300/20 and then earlier this year they changed their plans to 200/10 and 400/20 so I'm consistently getting about 30% less than advertised. I was mostly trying to see if I could get bumped to their GB plan but per my last call, I don't think that'll happen, for now just going to see if I can pull 400mb for my desktop & For the time being I ordered a webcam for my desktop.

Checked all my drivers and all are up to date.

Just to be sure, the Ethernet cable you use from the laptop, it’s not a Cat5 is it?

my friend was paying for a 600/20 pipe and the connection speed to the router and to other wired devices was great.

turns out he had a Cat5 (100-base) between the modem and the router. If you have an old cable between the laptop and router you’ll see restricted speeds.

just to rule it out make sure it’s at least a Cat5e.
