Been a lot of slow progress. Been working on the excel sheet for my new engine harness I am making and accumulating money and materials to make it. Just cut out all the stuff the PO did and starting fresh.

Finally fixed my welder and cleaned up the garage. Wifes mom is in town so I got some garage time to myself.

Making FIA style seat mounts to try and stick my seat with sliders as close to the ground as possible. I also already want to build a tabletop bandsaw out of a milwaukee portaband after this work.

Had to maked Cardboard templates from where they bashed the tunnel wider to fit the 5 speed. Luckily the one side is flat. I just tacked it in lightly until I can have a friend help me weld it/oversee my work. 20181201_185324.jpeg20181201_185251.jpeg20181201_185257.jpeg

Made some stainless fuel lines, put in a bracket to fill the old fuel line holes with AN -6 bolt bulkheads, pulled the fuel tank to weld a new AN bung.

Pulled the rear end out of it to fit a bigger hole for the exhaust and weld some new tabs to fix the super negative rear camber. Planning on driving this thing by june.

To do.
Finish fuel lines to the pump/return
Redo fuel lines in the engine bay to suppprt e85
Finish exhaust

Xcessive intake for the ka24de came in, I had them weld on a inlet for a 74mm dbw throttle body off of an audi, 52lb bosch injectors, so no more garbage sidefeeds that hate ethanol. Should give me enough headroom to run E85 if I want to.

Last big piece of the puzzle before I can build the engine harness and drive her. 20190429_232225.jpeg

Very cool that they set it up that way for you. Nice piece for sure.

I'm excited to see this thing running & driving!

Yeah I am excited to get away from all the old junky idle air and AC intake air motors etc . Cleans everything up nicely.

Also the DBW throttle body gives me the ability to eventually throw in throttle based traction control if I want to with the Haltech Elite 1500 but that will require speed sensors on all 4 wheels.

Goal is by June/early July to have it back together. Unfortunately it will still be spray painted green poorly on the outside but it should drive way better, and the interior should be close to 80 percent done.

Wife has decreed that we will be getting a new kitchen this year so that will by my other project, trying to wrap this one up before I get too deep into the kitchen.

Got the intake mocked up, still have to run fuel lines and heater hose lines. At least now I can measure for wiring harness lengths.

Engine is crustier than I would like but that can wait until next winter. Also seems like I could push the engine down 1 inch and back 2 inches with this intake.

Also mocked up the Restomodair hvac setup in the car. Designed mostly for american cars and it shows with how little room I have for it. But I love my AC. Have to figure out where the heater/ac lines will go through the firewall now as the stock locations wont work.

Had 2 extra days off dedicated towards working on this and instead I was super sick with a cold. Fought through it Saturday afternoon to at least get one more thing done. Had to make brackets to push the hvac further away from the firewall and keep the unit level in both directions. Had to mig weld studs to the firewall and then finally got the unit mounted solid. What a bitch it is to get things in there I have bruises all up my side/arm.

Also got my s14 ac bracket and compressor.

Last of the sensors came in. Decided to get a bung welded on the intake and use a combined 1bar bosch map/iat for one less sensor to wire. Fuel pressure/fuel temp sensor mount came in also along with a remote mount for oil pressure, front brake pressure, rear brake pressure, coolant pressure etc. Better to have them mounted remotely away from the vibrations of the engine especially when I track it.

Looking great!

Question though......why is there a box of Wheat Thins and a safety vest in the engine bay?
Wheat thin boxes I use to make templates for welding up brackets/mounds (CAD design)

Right now the garage is a dumping ground because I am in the middle of a kitchen/family room/dining room renovation. Getting the Datsun back to being a roller so I can push it outside and paint cabinet doors for our kitchen island.

Also we somehow managed to have a kid about 7 weeks ago so this is about the first time I was allowed to work on the car vs getting the kitchen done (behind schedule by like 5 weeks).

So mostly focusing on getting the electrical harnesses done. I have 3 left. Engine, Transmission, Engine bay

I did the Dash harness and fuse panels 2 years ago using mostly TXL wire which is fine for the interior.

Decided to try something new and will use "mil-spec" wire for the Engine harnesses. Got a nice batch of stuff from prowireusa.com
Built a little wood unit with some dowels to hold them.

Mocking up and measuring the Alternator, Starter, Transmission sensor harnesses (Neutral, Reverse, VSS/Speed sensor)

Running 0 Gauge back to a battery in the trunk for the starter and 4 gauge for the charge circuit.
I had to buy new Reverse and Neutral sensors as the previous ones were ruined and had no connectors and not much left to solder to.

Waiting on the Trombetta Defender contactor which will act as my safety switch when I track this car. It will be mounted above the 200amp fuse. I will have a kill switch near the driver and one accessible outside the vehicle just in case something bad happens.

Will be hard mounting all of these once I get the wiring back up for my welder to tack bolts in place.

Next big task now that the main power is mostly figured out is where and how to mount the Fuse panels. I eventually want to switch these out for GEP units which are lower profile but at this point I just want to get the car running so I bent up a simple bracket to work for this year. One of these panels runs all of the ECU functions (Fuel pump 1, Fuel Pump 2, fans, main eccs relay, etc) The other runs all of the body functions like headlights, wipers, turn signals, radio, brake lights, gauges etc.

Rough location in the footwell kick panel on the passenger side.

Due to the HVAC unit I am running out of space to put the Haltech ECU and misc boxes needed to run the car. I am using the Elite 2500 intended for my 300zx but at some point I will buy an Elite 1500 so I can use the 2500 on the Z. Ran out of time tonight so hopefully I can make that panel sometime later this week.

Pushed the easy button for passenger seat mounts as somebody made a set online . I still need to make some additions to fit the Sparco Buckets/Sliders but for now all focus is on getting the car in a drivable state. Once all the electronics are in and the car runs I will take it all out one last time to paint the interior.

95 percent done with our kitchen and a Shed I built last year. Can't use my PTO for vacations so taking a week off next week to try and get this car running and all my other projects done. Spending the next few nights finishing harnesses and ordering the rest of what I need for the fuel system, Hvac, wiring so I have it for next week.

Got the main harness all laid out before, double checked everything and documented every wire.

I am trying out concentric twisting and trying to do things how the pros mostly do it. Definately a learning process. Laying the harness as is in the engine bay to be sure everything is correct before all the heatshrink tubing and connectors go on.

Have all the Haltech stuff mocked up for wiring next. This will mount in the passenger footwell. I will eventually swap out the 2500 for a 1500. The 2500 was supposed to go into my 300zx. The other two boxes are a Wideband box and an IO box as I plan to monitor a lot more sensors for tracking the car. This harness will probably be the most confusing as it will work between the EFI harness, Engine Bay harness, dash Harness, fuel pump harness along with interfacing with the fuse panels.
