Hmm i didnt have to do that? Had same issue, car wasent being driven so i didnt register it. When it got fixed, i went in to register, paid the $100 and the only difference was they gave me a new plate

Ah that's what it was! If you want to keep the old plates, then you need to pay the old registration fees that would be overdue.

Like others have said, if the you have not renewed the plates because the car was inoperable, you will have to pay fees retroactive to the last paid renewal, assuming you want the same plates. If they are standard plates just ditch those and get all new ones. That is what I did with the Cobra.

Just had this happen. If its 2 years and one day expired you can get a new plate. 2 years or less and you have to pay the 2 years back. At least I got the same number just a new plate.

That what must have happened to me.
I let a truck sit for a while and they forced me to back pay.
I had another truck that sat for several years, like 5-7 and I only paid the current year.
