First chips tonight! Really mixed bag.

I installed my printed collar for the threading gear engagement. Needs testing but it fit after 2 revisions.

PXL_20230429_015241314.jpg

I started out with a pulley. I thought this would be steel but it machined like cast iron. Gah what a mess.PXL_20230429_015516090.jpg

I parted it first.for what I needed that was likely a mistake in the order of operations.

The part looked really good. There is zero competition between the 10" and 12" for rigidity the 10 beats the 12 hands down. Enough so I would be hard pressed to recommend an Atlas 12".

This was with a turning tool mounted 90 degrees out so I am not going to be too hard on it.

PXL_20230429_025244978.jpg

I tried some turning. I initially I had the centers too loose I think. This is with a dog and a face plate.

After this I lost my belt. The pulley popped off and the belt flew but I have no clue where it went.

I am fairly certain I didn't have well ground tools. That will probably be a yt refresher. It may also be sfpm as well. My spindle was at 500 rpm with hss.

My 3d printed power feed works! I am so excited about that. Here is some non stainless steel with some shitty HSS.

Carbide insert tooling is on the way, can't wait test that when it shows up.

I need some pretty significant adjustment as I definitely have taper towards the tail stock, probably about .001 per inch or a bit over. This was turned between centers, so I probably need a hint of tail stock adjustment.PXL_20230503_032353724.jpgPXL_20230503_032400570.jpgPXL_20230503_032404953.jpg

well sent some stuff out for laser cutting as I don't feel like playing with the plasma. Most of it showed up all pretty. Waiting on the last of it to get here and be all pre bent. Fingers crossed it's not fucked up

Ordered some walnut and cherry and going to attempt to make a bulk of fidgets

Almost ready to pull the trigger on a p1p 3d printer. just hate the fact it doesn't have a USB port and need a way to convince the wife to let me do it

Took me 2 years but I finally caved and got me one of these m12 die grinders. On sale with a free battery: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...Angle-Die-Grinder-Tool-Only-2485-20/310152871

May well be, I backed the tensioning nut off a bit. The shaft was over half sawn through already though.

Decided I am no fan of the dials on this so I am going to add printed ones. The dial it's self is from thingiverse but the pointer is mine. The dial is for a later Atlas Commercial Lathe so I am making my own pointer.

I didn't count on having to clearance the power feed for the cross slide. A bit of a file did the trick.
PXL_20230506_224857336.jpg

I broke the handle off. I Gotta modify that again I guess. I made the set screw by cutting a screw to length then soldering a knurled nut on to it.
PXL_20230506_232139383.jpg
I also need to alter the top half of the pointer. It doesn't clearance the cross slide so I don't have complete swing.

I'm going to sell my CNC lathe project if anyone is interested. I'm not smart enough to figure out the VFD wiring and lost my will to give a shit. Plus I need the space. Will order a bench top cnc lathe
$2500 can come grab it
Have the original servo motors (not installed) and acorn centroid board and power supply. Just needs stepper drivers, wiring and possibly new steppers unless you can figure it out. Also will need chuck, chuck plate and tool post.

Why didn't you ever ask here? Honestly between the lot of us I bet we would have had it sorted.

I bet you lose one insert screw in the 1st week
Possible. But then again I don't have any replacement carbide here yet either.

Odds of doing something stupid and tossing an insert are remarkably high in my mind. Much better than compared to the last lathe though, just because it's so much more rigid than the 12" was.
