I drove to Pikes Peak last summer and it was still snowy as fuck at the top. I almost crashed on the way there driving on highway 24 absolutely mesmerized by the scenery. I lived in Alaska for about 15 years and Colorado blew me away.
They were also rebuilding the visitors center and shit at the top of Pikes when I was there so it was all closed down but it gives me reason to go back.

Glad you didn’t do seven bridges, that trail blows

how long are you here for? Winter is supposed to hit again Wednesday

We are here until Saturday, our flight is at 12:30. Weather looked great until about a week ago. Tomorrow the plan is to hit Garden of the Gods and then the Manitou Incline.

The staircase was pretty steep at Seven Falls, the fall would be BRUTAL ?

On our way to our cabin, where we are staying is at 8,900 feet. We are drinking a lot of water to avoid altitude sickness.

What kind of car were you in?

I am thinking about trying to drive it if we have time. My girlfriend is a little freaked out by it though, she’s afraid of heights.

We did 9.25 miles of hiking today, starting off at Garden of the Gods, then did the Manitou Incline, and came back down via the Barr Trail. I am proud of my girlfriend as she has asthma and is terrified of heights....these hikes we have been doing having really put her out of her comfort zone. We didn’t break any record times going up the incline, but we did the full incline. I really wanted to test myself on this especially since there were some folks of all ages blazing up. I saw one guy go up and down twice. I had to swallow my pride and make sure the special lady friend was safe. The views were absolutely nuts. I couldn’t believe the grade of parts of the Manitou Incline, at points it was like you were climbing a ladder. I read that there are parts that are 68% incline which is nuts!

How did you like the incline? It's actually closer to 2800 steps, or just over, since they did some repairs. Where there might have been one "step" they might have replaced it with two or three. The numbers that are stenciled on the front of the steps weren't accurate when I did the climb.

What people don't realize is that in your first few photos that show the incline from the base is that the top of the steps they can "see" is really about 3/4 of the way up. There's another few hundred steps beyond that point that you can't see from the base.

Edit: Missed the first part of the previous post where you state where you did the walking. I'm impressed you did both GotG and the Incline/Barr in one day.

I liked it a lot, in hindsight we probably should have done it on its own day or as the first hike. I would love to do it again by myself or with someone I can push myself with. I as well did it in hiking boots and with a back pack full of water/snacks.

Hell yea! Great photos and it looks like it was a blast.

I’m a little jealous you got to go to GotG. I was on my way after coming back down Pikes and it started absolutely down pouring. Some of the hardest rain I’ve ever been in. So I very slowly drove to hotel instead but REALLY want to go back

Thanks Chris!

Garden of the Gods is great, the hiking is pretty laid back nothing too aggressive. The rock formations are amazing. It’s a must stop for sure if you are out this way again!

Today was a take it easy and relax day...no waking up early, no set appointments to be anywhere. Started off with some hiking around the neighborhoodCame across some cool rock formations I wanted to climb, but unfortunately they were on private property. So cool to to live in a place where this is literally right in your backyard.

After the few mile stroll around the neighborhood we decided to drive Pike’s Peak. The weather was surprisingly awesome as the forecast was calling for rain/snow. The drive up Pike’s Peak was RIDICULOUS. The views were unsurpassed and portions of the climb were pretty damn terrifying ? Something about being at that height for me and no safety rail between you and the edge! We downloaded this app called My Altitude and have been using all trip, unfortunately didn’t realize we could take pictures using it until we got to the top, Mile 16. Due to construction they had the last 3 miles closed which was kind of a bummer. The weather at Mile 16 was drastically different from the lower portion....the temp dropped like 20 degrees and the wind was blowing super hard. Like an idiot I left my hiking boots back at the cabin, which prevented me from going too far on a hike at the top. Oh well, maybe I’ll hit it up before we got!

Last three miles closed? That's a bummer. I was able to drive all the way to the top while they were working at the top. And yes, down at the bottom before you go into the entrance it was like 70° out. By the time we got to the top it was maybe mid 40's with 20-30mph gusting to 40mph. Still walked around the top and climbed on the rocks. Then went inside to get warmed up, but they didn't have a batch of the donuts ready to go :(

My phone and car couldn't decide on the correct elevation:

Yeah we were notified entering the park that the last 3 miles were closed because of construction. I was bummed out although it might have been a good thing because the girlfriend was almost having a nervous breakdown with how high we were and being right at the edge of the road. ?
