Yeah we were notified entering the park that the last 3 miles were closed because of construction. I was bummed out although it might have been a good thing because the girlfriend was almost having a nervous breakdown with how high we were and being right at the edge of the road. ?
Mine wasn't so much scared of the drop offs as much as she got motion sick from the turns. I thought between her having altitude issues and motion sickness she was gonna snark all over the inside of the car.

When we were at the top she made it about 10 minutes outside before having to go in to warm up and collect her breath. Oddly I felt great, no altitude sickness at all. I even went back in the corner behind the food bars and did 20 pushups while she sat in a booth and watched.

We then went back out and explored the eastern side, where the cog railway is.

the stairs on the side of the mountain on the 1st day, yeah, no fucking way
That's pretty much what I did, LOL. My dumbass didn't even stretch first. Just overdressed with 20-30lbs on my back and went for it. Then the weather started to come in as I was coming down the Barr trail. I ended up jogging/running down 2/3rds of it in hiking boots with the pack on. By the time I got back to my car I was soaked from rain and snow. The hiking boots made the climb up the stairs a pain, but man did they come in handy for hauling ass back down the trail.

:fy:

Yesterday we went out to Royal Gorge and I experienced probably the best most scenic drive I’ve ever done. This is the first time we headed Sfrom where we are staying, all of our driving prior to this was heading back East. The roads and scenery cannot be beat! I would love for us to do a TCG Tour out here, I’m definitely coming back with the Hellcat for this. The Royal Gorge was spectacular too!

Today we went out to the wolf sanctuary which is literally 5 minutes from us, probably one of the coolest experiences ever. We did a “Meet & Greet” with 2 wolves, a male Tundra Wolf Keyni and a female Timber Wolf Makuee. We got to pet/feed them and then we howled with them, it was so cool. These animals are so majestic! We then did a tour and learned more about them and saw other wolves on-site.

Last day of our trip, my girlfriend went to the spa and I got to push my self on a hike. I ended up going to Cheyenne Cañon and doing the hike up to St. Mary’s Falls. This one is rated moderate to difficult. I would definitely put it at difficult because I was walking through 6-8” of snow the entire way! I was the only one on the trail basically blazing a path and taking guesses where to go. Thought at anytime I might become some wild animal’s feast ? Super peaceful hike with amazing views, to bad the falls weren’t going. A great way to cap our vacation.

Great pics, looks like you had an awesome trip!

Thanks Vogz Vogz

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. My son is out there right now and sending us pictures. He is in awe cruising around in his Mustang. Looks like you had a great time!

I saw your son’s Mustang in the Bored thread, tell him to be careful. The weather can turn around pretty quickly out there so hopefully he can get in some good hiking!

At one point he said he was going 15 mph because of the inclines ? he is on his way home today.
It is no joke out there, especially in the mountain areas. A 4 wheel or all wheel drive is mandatory. I’ve never seen so many Subarus, Jeep Wranglers, and Toyota 4 Runners in an area in my life!

on paved roads?
