I think it's become common in the past few years that top teams in their division have been eliminated in the first round. Wasn't 2019 when all divisional leaders were eliminated in the first round?
To me this is a fault of the points scale used in hockey for rank and position vs. just wins/losses. It just exacerbates the impact of a top ranked team being eliminated. So Boston having 135 points (I can't recall without looking), and being eliminated, just looks flat out ugly. I guess since it went all 7 games, it's not as sore a subject in Bahhhhston, but still.
