I think it's become common in the past few years that top teams in their division have been eliminated in the first round. Wasn't 2019 when all divisional leaders were eliminated in the first round?

To me this is a fault of the points scale used in hockey for rank and position vs. just wins/losses. It just exacerbates the impact of a top ranked team being eliminated. So Boston having 135 points (I can't recall without looking), and being eliminated, just looks flat out ugly. I guess since it went all 7 games, it's not as sore a subject in Bahhhhston, but still.

Berdard is going to be fantastic. Ideally we can draft another Kane/Toews duo to build around. Also the Hawks sold 1.9 mil in season tickets right after It was announced we got the first draft pick just for this kid ?

I wouldn’t doubt it, NHL needs the Hawks back in the mix. I’d bet some foul play involved by the league. But I’m not going to complain when we benefit from it this time.

Plus with ~40M in cap space, you can build around him quite nicely. $40M goes alot farther in the NHL than other sports.
