I just need like 15 miles.... But I am about to take a job up there, so time to convince the wife to leave this shithole.

For all the shit talking there is about this state, it doesn’t seem a whole lot of you are willing to do anything about it :dunno:

“WI is so much better” “Indiana actually has affordable housing and taxes”

It’s not that hard to move. People do it every day.

I'll never move. I'm afraid of change and my entire life is contained in this state.

I'll be going down with the ship.

Yea, it isn't as simple as flipping a switch...

I also have to ask, and this is different for each one here, what is the final straw that breaks the camels back?

Throw more taxes at it. That will fix the problem.
And then as more and more people DO leave, they keep finding more ways to tax those that haven't left because the tax base has shrunk.

Gotta ask if you're single, own a home or have kids. Goes back to the shit you own owning you.

Ill likely be here with you. Its family keeping me here now, and by the time they pass I'll likely be in my mid 50's+ so doubt I would uproot everything then. :dunno:

Yeah, as my son gets older and my wife gets a bit further along redefining her career (she oddly has gone from retail to retail banking to banking tech support in the 6 years since our son has been born) and my son's a bit older I will give it more consideration but I would still say it's not easy nor pain free. Also expecting to dump 10-20K into the house to get it to sell.

Exactly... I have step kids and their dad lives here, so it's not as easy as just picking up and leaving. If we didn't have kids, I'd have been gone 4 years ago.

That being said, the courts are pretty likely to grant me a move from Gurnee to Kenosha or Appleton since it's only a 20 min drive for their loser dad to come pick them up, vs. Indiana which is my first choice.

If I were to become "just a tech" again and was on the road week after week like I use to be, I'd consider leaving IL. I would just need to be somewhat close to a major airport. Same pay I get now in a place a fraction of the to live. That seems like a win to me.

I moved 6 years ago. Best decision ever. But I'll end up coming back this year. Shit happens.

I'm liquidating everything this year, car, house stuff, tools, everything. Once it's gone and I'm able to move, I'll be on the hunt for a new job.

Family/friends is the only reason I’m still here. My dad is constantly trying to get me to move to Wisconsin so my mom will get on board with his scheme to move there as well.
