🔧 BUILD GTPpower's 05 F-350 6.0 PSD

General Information

I need a way to help me keep track of everything I'm doing to this thing.

I bought it from a dealer on 02/01/17. It needed an oil cooler and possibly a headgasket. I farm and own a construction business, so reliability is a main concern. I took it to a diesel shop a few weeks later to get the following done.

-Headstuds
-4" Turboback Exhaust
-Edge CTS2 Pro with Gearhead Custom tuning
-Edge EGT Probe
-Mishimoto Coolant Filter
-Valvecover Gaskets
-Rear Main Seal
-Updated Oil Cooler
-Rear Cover Gasket
-Updated Turbo Feed Line
-Rocker Box Gasket
-Injector O-ring kit
-Heater Tube O-ring
-Motorcraft Crank Sensor
-Passanger and Driver Glow Plug Harnesses
-Hpop Gasket Kit
-Updated Turbo Oil Drain
-Standpipe & Dummy Plug Kit
-Blue Spring Kit
-6.4 Pushrods
-6.4 Lifters
-Cam position sensor
-Racor Oil and Fuel Filters
-5w-40 Synthetic Oil
-CAT Extended Life Coolant

It's that time of the year to give the 6.0 some love.

Finally installing my sub that I've had sitting around for a couple years.

IMG_20211112_115537463.jpg

I had to cut some plywood to plug up the extra hole.

IMG_20211112_115552709.jpg

Got the sub installed and wired.

That's about as far as that project has gone. Hopefully I can work on it a bit more this week.

Also, the driver's seat was getting pretty bad.

IMG_20211112_153939711.jpg

So I bought new covers from an eBay store and attempted to do it myself.

Pretty nasty.

The foam seemed to still be in good shape, so I reused it.

Old on the left, new on the right.

Ford likes to use hog rings on these I guess.

The bottom turned out really good.

The top I'm not as happy with because of the wrinkles at the top. I'll put a few miles on it and see if it straightens out. If not, I'll probably pull it back apart and try it again.

I'm planning to take my yearly hunting trip later this week, so the sub will be nice for the 6 hour drive each way, and I'll get a few miles on the seat.

Is that a comp rt? I've got one of those under the back seat in my truck I haven't got around to hooking up yet. Thing banged in my last truck tho

I think that's what it is. I bought it so long ago, I can't remember for sure. I had a 10" kicker in my f150 a long time ago with a tma 500 amp, and I was very happy with it.

Took my hunting trip last week. I only got one day to hunt, and didn't end up getting anything. Had a nice buck in my sights on Saturday night, but someone else was looking at it too from the road, so I didn't want to shoot it out from under them.

But, got the sub put in.

Remote gain control.....I'm not sure this works correctly for some reason. For one, it works backwards, and it also just doesn't seem to really work correctly.

The sound is pretty good. I like it a lot, but to get this box in, you have to completely remove the rear wall carpet liner. You don't realize how much noise that covers up. Especially when driving through fields. I may need to find a different box and sub that sits under the rear seat. Also, for some reason, the sub doesn't work when streaming through Bluetooth. No clue why that is.

I put on a new driver's side rear caliper. Bought this a year ago, because it seems to kind of seize up when hot.

Finally got the tires rotated.

Swapped in a new thermostat. That one lasted 2 years I think. Coolant was lucky to hit 170° on a cool day. I flushed the coolant filter again

IMG_20211118_145355976.jpg

I cross threaded one of the bolts putting it back in, so I had to pull the charge pipe to get it started strait. Ugh.

Temps look good now though.

I replaced another coolant hose that had leaks, but there is still a leak coming from someplace. I need to do some looking on it to try and figure out where it's coming from.

Damn.

Who are you using for Ficms?

For what it's worth... On my one 6.0 I tossed in a Dorman board and it fucking ran great. It's like $110 and all you gotta do is split the shells and bolt it in

This is from ficmrepair. I put it in 4 years ago if my records are correct. Today was basically the 1st cold day of the year. I'm wondering if my batteries didn't go bad and fry it. I have them unhooked and will load test them in the morning.

Batteries both tested bad. It's about 28° here and one tested 744cca, and the other was 614cca.

I talked to ficmrepair... he's a nice guy, but man, I just had an exchange question since I have a tune on it, and the guy tries to sell you a million dollars worth of parts. Kind of a turn off. I remember when I bought this originally, he was trying to sell me everything plus the kitchen sink.

I can send it to ficmfixer for $198 and they will fix it for me. Or just buy the dorman board and fix it myself.
