Easy swap, pull wheel, axle nut and ball joint then yank. I'd check out those wheel bearings while you're in there. I actually ended up with used gm ones from morad for like $30 each.

that seal is usually in good shape, you can brake clean and blow it off before pulling the axle and clean the seal lips with a qtip/rag...then slather fresh atf on it before slipping your shaft into that dark moist place

I only ask cuz I noticed that there seems to be a bit of leakage from the drivers side. Extra moist on that side... :naughty:

most of the time a moist seal is still doing it's job its just lubricating itself better lol

most of the time though a minor pan gasket leak gets blown over towards the sxle and can make it seem worse...brake clean it off and see what it looks like after a day of driving

Yea stick to gm stuff. They're simple to replace though.

Sometimes the splines will rut to the hub, a 3 jaw puller makes quick work of it. As long as the axle pulls out of the trans easy it's no problem, I've done a few that were really stuck in the trans though...and there's no good way to get leverage on them.

I replaced an axle on our focus just like on a gtp. To my shock a shit ton of ATF fluid came out

I dont want to have to fill the trans up... its on its way out... trans flush = certain doom for it in no time...

X2. A flush is way different then just draining and refilling. Dont listen to those Aamco ******s running in place.

Even if all your fluid happened to drain out, refilling it aint no big thing.

I wouldn't drain it if it smells burnt with metalic shavings. It'll be done within a week.

If can live without the GTP for a day...take the axle to Lake Cook CV Axle in Wheeling. I've been taking all of my axles there to get repaired for both cars in the past two years. They are really cheap and can turn most stuff around while you wait. a boot repair would be like $10-20 total.
