Looks like some sort of spring material. Can't think of anything that would contain those pieces. I've seen rocker needle bearings on an oilpan magnet before, but that's something new to me...

oh shit I know what it is; it's the spring retainer for a front/rear seal.

It's from the front cover crank seal or rear main seal. The only two near that size in an LS.
