Our sources tell us GM's viability plan set to be released at 5:00PM will kill the Saturn brand by 2011. Pontiac will also go away as a division. But the nameplate will sorta live on.

So basically, what we've heard is the brand meant to compete against the foreign brands is dead — Saturn goes away in 2011. There will be no new products for Saturn and Saturn dealers are getting a video from Mark LeNeve at 5:00 PM to inform them. We're thinking Mark should cut a check to send with it. As far as Pontiac, it goes away as a division. The nameplate will live on on some vehicles — but we've got no idea what "niche products" they're talking about. More coming shortly.

This is a good start, but GM should keep Pontiac going. Chevy, Cadillac, Pontiac, and MAYBE Buick. Kill Saab, HUMMER, and GMC. Saturn was always a useless brand imo and never profited enough to be worth it. Ironically GM went on this rebadge craze in recent years for Saturn and now they are dumping it.

I agree except that they should keep Buick and get a cheaper car like the Century. Every old person drives a Century.

that is sooo true, and old people hate the lacrosse and lucerne because they arent giant hunks of cheap shit... all most old people want is a cheap car that rides like it has no shocks... they all complain because the newer buicks have lower profile tires and they ride alot more firm... that firmness is misinterpreted as rough.. but it doesnt matter cuz old people dont care. not alot of old people can afford a 20K+ car either and thats why the century was perfect... it was a cheap piece of shit that had no shocks. oh yea, and old people also get confused with all the electronic gizmos in the cars now... they can barely operate the power windows (i cant tell you how many times the back left window went down instead of the front when i greeted oil changes at the buick dealer!)... old people need an AM radio a shifter they can leave in D3 instead of overdrive and wheel with no radio controls and they will be happier than pigs in shit

Exactly!! Grandpa doesnt want these new fancy Buicks they are building nowadays. 35K-40K+ for a Buick is rediculous, thats why there is Cadillac!! If grandpa is a baller then he buys a Cadillac.

Bringing back the Century would be a great success. 75R sidewalls, dynaride, comfortable bench seats with foldable front middle seat for one of the grand children to sit in. Easy to use radio and manual HVAC controls. Keep the price around ~20K new.

Grandpa doesnt need those "blinding" HID headlights that old people absolutely hate anyway. No need for 60lbs of guady chrome trim around the entire car. Simplicity is the key to success.

IM gonna go against the grain, and suggest that Pontiac end here.
I like the G8 and Solstice variations, but those dont make a division. GM is $170 Billion in the red, so they cant afford to make an entire division of enthusiast machines like Pontiac needs.

Turn the clock back to 2000. They had the Grand Am GT, Grand Prix GTP, Bonneville SSEI,and Trans am/Formulae in any combination to suit your need for speed .

Today its G8 , Solstice, G6 GXP and crickets.None of those cars are below $26K, and GM's resale is so weak its foolish to buy brand new when you loose $2000 just driving off the lot.

Since the General cant afford to restore the division to its earlier self, let it end.
