Aka, the bronze washer mod.
There is basically no info on the web about this, and it's an important mod, so here it is.
This is the washer part number that worked for me.
I was also told it's PN: K75906A, but I did not have luck with that. I ordered two different washer sets with that part number, and they were both incorrect.
So, after the washers come in, it's a good idea to stick the diff outside if it's cold or in the freezer for an hour or so. There are 44 little needle bearings in each gear, and they like to fall out when the gear is removed. Keeping it cold will help them stay inside the gear.
So up first, remove the snap/spring ring.
Now you can remove a pin and slide out the gear. Try to slide the washers out with it. It's a really good idea to do this above a pan to catch the needle bearings if they do fall out.
Good chance this will happen at least once.
So, use trans gel, and stick them back in. The small washer goes in the middle, separating the two sets of bearings.
At this point, you can install the big washers. The bronze washer goes next to the gear, followed by the steel.
Next, install the small steel washer inside the bearing area, followed by the rest of the needle bearings.
You can then install the bronze washer, followed by the steel. I put the pin in temporarily, just to make sure all the needle bearings were seated.
Then, carefully remove the pin while leaving the washers in place, and slide it back into the differential, doing your best to keep the washers aligned. Once in place, reinstall the pin.
Now repeat that 3 more times for the other gears. After completed, install the snap/spring ring back on, install the sun gear, and you're ready to blow off both tires.
