fucking in

based on a huge book series (4 books) called A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. reminds me of a much darker lord of the rings. i guess the tv adaption is staying pretty faithful to the books as well.

first 12 minutes..

HBO.com

premiers april 17th. i guess its a good thing i get hbo free for 6 months. :fy:

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

I've only seen the first episode. should i re-try and watch this?
for sure, it is a great series no matter what.

i watch a lot of stuff pretty passively, like on an external monitor or tv while i work. i regret doing this with most of game of thrones, it's worth full attention, not just because there's kind of a zillion things going on but because you'll miss a lot watching more passively, it wasn't until i started being more active with it that i caught a lot of funny parts actually.

They knew how they wanted her to end up early on, but it was a switch flip over a few episodes vs more gradual. Even with thr shit she was doing, they always made her out to be the hero. Until the last season, so it felt less authentic.
And the way they did it was just so ridiculous. Having her burn the city and the red keep to take the throne…that I could totally understand. But waiting until she’s already won then having her burn the entire city and the women and children? What?

This has been my main complaint about the final season. I am sure that GRRM gave them the broad brush stokes of what happens. Something like "Daenerys is driven mad, and turns against everyone" and they were probably like GOT IT! Then instead of letting it be a nice slow burn, they have her get randomly jealous in like 2 episodes and go completely off the deep end. I get that she is kinda going that way the whole show, but then it was very very rushed in my opinion.

He needs to hurry up on the last books. I am sure the end results will be basically the same, but I am very curious to see how they all get there in the books. Plus there are some characters that were not in the show, or were way more minor in the show that I want to see what happens with them.

ya know, to be fair, they were turning Danny crazy prior to s8, it was gradual but it was there. her talks of conquering, not showing mercy for her enemies, jealousy, her quick temper, etc etc. it was gradual but it was there. they could have fucking pulled it off without the shit we ended up with.

also, i'm now convinced Arya was the "prince that was promised". she never wanted to be a lady, she ended up being a soldier and a weapon. its shitty but it is at least plausible.

I really was hoping I'd appreciate the final season with some years behind it now. Nope, they destroyed all the character arcs. Just so bad.

Once they got past the books it really dove off a cliff. I was bitching about it at the time (season 6) and everyone told me I was crazy.

Like said before the build with Daney was there, but they didnt know how to write anyone and then also were really in a hurry to get to the other projects they had lined up. I think the whole thing is made a lot worse by how great the earlier seasons were. If it was the level of season 6-8 the whole time it wouldnt be as hated, just a mid level show.

For sure, when jon snow snubbed her after fighting the night king, or thereabouts, it was clear she gave no fucks anymore.

IMO it didn't totally fall apart until she burned the whole city AFTER cersei surrendered. Everything was salvageable up to that point.
