'24' Eyes Return As Limited Series On Fox, Howard Gordon To EP, Kiefer Sutherland In Talks To Star - Deadline.com

The clock may start ticking again on Fox. I’ve learned that the network is looking to bring back its signature real-time drama 24 as a limited series. Kiefer Sutherland is in talks to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Agent Jack Bauer. No deals are in place, but Fox is eying 24 as part of its recent push in limited event series. Since 24 ended its eight-season run on Fox in 2010, there have been efforts to continue the story as a feature, which ultimately didn’t take off. I hear the idea to do another 24 chapter on TV came from longtime 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, now executive producer on Showtime’s Homeland. I hear he pitched the plan, which would start from scratch with a new story arc, to 24 producers 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV as well as Fox, which all jumped on board. Gordon will likely executive produce through his 20th TV-based company Teakwood Lane. In addition to Homeland, Gordon executive produces the newly picked up TNT series Legends and high-profile FX pilot Tyrant, which is being directed by Ang Lee. Sutherland most recently starred on the Fox/20th TV drama Touch, which is being cancelled after two seasons. The original 24 was created by Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran, who executive produced with Gordon, Brian Grazer, Sutherland, Evan Katz and Tony Krantz. At the 2006 Emmys, the show won five Emmys, including best drama series and best actor in a drama series for Sutherland.

Update: Entertainment Weekly has learned that the ”limited event series” in the works for 24 is actually an order for 13 one-hour episodes. While 24 has always functioned as a 24-hour story spread over 24 episodes, 13 episodes is a full season for a lot of television shows. So it will be interesting to see how developing 24 as a 13-episode limited event series will change the franchise.

Done deal. Coming back in May, 2014. 12 episodes.

Jack Bauer will officially live another day. The counter-terrorism superhero who worked his way through eight seasons of 24-hour madness before the series ended in 2010 will return in May 2014. The new show is a 12-hour limited event called 24: Live Another Day. Kiefer Sutherland has officially signed on to return to the role, which will follow the same 24-hour format of the original series, but condensed to 12 hours, with uneventful hours skipped.

And here we go.

Fox today announced today that "24: Live Another Day" will premiere with a special two-hour television event Monday, May 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and makes its time period premiere the following week on Monday, May 12 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). The high-octane saga reunites the Emmy Award-winning team of executive producer Howard Gordon; star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland; co-creator Robert Cochran; executive producers Evan Katz, Manny Coto, David Fury and Brian Grazer; and executive producer and director Jon Cassar.

Set and shot in London, the suspenseful event series once again will follow the exploits of heroic agent Jack Bauer (Sutherland), as he attempts to thwart an unthinkable terrorist attack that could change the world forever. Retaining the real-time, nail-biting, fast-paced format with split screens and interweaving storylines, the highly-anticipated series also stars Mary Lynn Rajskub ("Firewall"), Kim Raver ("Revolution") and William Devane ("The Dark Knight Rises") reprising their original roles. Newcomers to the drama series include Yvonne Strahovski ("Dexter"), Giles Matthey ("Jobs"), Gbenga Akinnagbe ("The Wire"), Michael Wincott ("The Crow") and Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Judy Davis ("Life with Judy Garland").
