I'm gear limited to the lowest being 3.54 on my s60 and I like the idea of having an OD anyway. If you can run a low enough gear to be happy on the street like a 3.27 on a 28" tire then a th400 is livable, but if you're planning on running a higher gear than you may not be happy driving it on the street in 3rd all the time.

I would run a 3.73 with an 80 or 3.55 with a 400. I don't have boost. :snooppalm:

3.73 on an 80e is probably the best compromise in strength, durability, capability, and drivability. If I were you I wouldn't go th400 just because I know it would potentially make me not want to drive the car in certain scenarios. Once you piece things together that compromise it's street driving capability, then you lose fun with it or start to build it as a track car with minor road use.

If anything, do the junkyard/shiftkit swap and that will carry you plenty far and be cheaper and more durable than a built 4l60e. If you need it further built then you already have the pcm stuff figured out.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I think building a 60 is almost a waste of money if I plan to make more power. Swapping in a junk yard 80 is still more than a built 400 though. I'm about a season away from needing it hopefully so I have time to figure it out.
