🔧 BUILD Five-0’s 86 Notcho

General Information

Say hello to Notcho 2.0. Happened much faster than I thought, but I’ll take it. This is what I was after all along. Great patina, but literally no actual rust. You could eat off the bottom of this thing.

Original 5.0, but swapped out to a 93 block and T-5. This car used to be local and then spent some time in Texas and I bought it off that guy and had it shipped here.

Plans are to leave the paint as-is, tidy up the engine bay and interior and just drive it until I decide to up the power.

Instead of tackling the big projects, I decided to start the window rebuild project. The windows would be all over the place while going up/down, felt strips were dry rotted to pieces as was the window run channel. The new felt strips came with the wrong color trim, so I had to dissect and re-assemble on the chrome trim. Passenger side is done and working 10 times better.

Little victories Jimbo. All the wheels look pretty good on the car but I think the SVE wheels look best. I've got three different sets for my car. These shitboxes need different shoe options depending on mood. Just keep them all.
Agreed, enjoying the little victories. SVE wheels have definitely grown on me and are going to stay. I’ll see what I keep or not. More part money would be nice though, lol.

Some progress. Fought with the fuel pump hanger for longer than I’d like to admit. QFS AN hat specific for my car, I ended up having to cut it down multiple times because it was too long. Regular SS hose clamps too large to fit in the tank, shitty ring terminals they factory installed broke. In any case, I eventually cut it to size, chopped the return off (cause that wouldn’t fit in the tank either) and replaced with flex hose, re-soldered connections, new weather pack fittings for e-85, as many SS zip ties I could fit, etc. I basically rebuilt the whole hat, but it’s solid now, lol. Put in a new fuel level sender too. Cliff notes, Walbro 450 is a big bitch for this tank and the QFS hat is dogshit out the box.

I’m also out of “easy” projects as I re-upholstered the lower door panel carpet, deleted the map pocket, and put on the missing vapor barrier. Came out decent given the vibe of the car. Maybe I should start another side hustle for upholstery and interior refining 🤣. Put on the last bit of felt strip I needed to replace to complete the window project too.

Next up, wiring upgrade for the fuel pump. Then I got all the rest of the stuff to do the rear disc conversion (cobra booster/master, lines, etc.). The rear end has to be opened for the suspension, so why not. Then to finish the fuel project. Why do I hate myself? This project snowballed fast!

I’m in the frustrated stage with the project as it’s been one set-back after another, but slowly making progress.

Flex fuel sensor and fuel filter mounted, I started to run the fuel line from the engine back, Panhard welded in (ugly welds, but functional), and torque arm mocked up.

The brake upgrade is likely to be put on hold as the SN brakes I had are trashed and the brackets wont work for my set-up. Torque arm had the wrong cross-member, but Griggs is swapping it out and making me a custom one for my car. Awesome customer service by them. Running the torque arm though will result in a custom exhaust, so likely will just prep for it and run dumps for now.

I am driving this thing all season even if it means putting some of the projects off.
