🔧 BUILD Five-0’s 86 Notcho

General Information

Say hello to Notcho 2.0. Happened much faster than I thought, but I’ll take it. This is what I was after all along. Great patina, but literally no actual rust. You could eat off the bottom of this thing.

Original 5.0, but swapped out to a 93 block and T-5. This car used to be local and then spent some time in Texas and I bought it off that guy and had it shipped here.

Plans are to leave the paint as-is, tidy up the engine bay and interior and just drive it until I decide to up the power.

Saving the original carpet is the way to go. All aftermarket options are shit. Make the interior a nice place to be since where do you spend the most time when you drive the car... I never understood how people can have nice cars but roached interiors. Looks good Jimbo!
Thanks Smiley! I agree, I want to be comfortable inside and I’m happy with how it’s coming together. My plan is a minty interior, clean engine, nice wheels and leave the exterior.

Got the console in. It’s rock solid now. Also did some filing and notching to get the Holley screen to fit there next to the boost gauge. It now sits where the AFR gauge was since the Holley will show that. New knob too for some bling. The Holley should be getting installed in a few weeks if all goes well.

Put in some work last week and through this weekend. Cut the hole in the fender well to fit the Anderson power pipe so I could put a filter on this thing. Even put some vintage door edge guard around the cut to keep it from getting chewed up more. The downside is I can no longer use the strut tower brace as I had to re-clock the supercharger for the power pipe clearance. I painted a couple things and detailed out the engine bay.

I also finally finished up the interior. Had to drill and tap the 2 front lap belt bolts that sheared off. Added some nice new floor mats to set it off. Still need to re-do the window seals for the doors and replace the missing map pocket. Otherwise it’s “done”

The seats turned out awesome. A good place for your ass for sure. Is that trim molding from 1980?
Thanks! For a basement re-upholstery job and my first time doing it I think they came out nice.

I found the trim at my dads and said I have the perfect use for it. Very likely from the 80s or early 90s

So the car is together, but not without drama. I took the car out the other week and it died on me within 1/2 a mile. Then the temp spiked immediately. Died another 6 times limping it home with the heat blaring to keep the temps as low as possible.

Did some digging and found air pouring out from the throttle body/spacer. Ordered new gaskets, thermostat and a neat coolant funnel. All that comes in and I start working on it about 10PM on Friday. Find the gasket completely blown out. New gaskets would hardly make a seal with this throttle body and spacer set-up. strtcar strtcar saves the day and I buy his Accufab 75MM set-up since he doesn’t need it yet. So I make that round trip Saturday morning.

I start working on it Saturday night and get it bolted up but fighting with the couplers as they technically are a little small for the larger TB. I get it installed finally and then my throttle cable is binding, but I finally get that aligned after some choice words. The car finally runs and stays running! So I use the awesome coolant funnel (best purchase ever) and successfully burp the system of air and no more overheating!
