Seems like there’s a bunch of different intersex conditions. Do we know what this person has?
dunno about them, but

has testes and i dunno how you deal with them in sport tbh.

i'm kinda mixed on lower level sport, eg. you can make the argument that with hormone therapy a MtF trans woman has a lot of stuff dampened, there's only 2 categories we have, and a although the post pubescent trans women still have advantages, they aren't necessarily out of the realm of normal female genetic variance (eg. like women in the wnba are quite tall) - that being said those women are still quite rare (but so are trans people) and you could make the argument that it's better to lean on the side of including people in sports in general, for the benefits people get from participating in them, which 99.999% of the time is all any non-pro gets from them anyway.

that being said it's hard to think that eventually over a long enough timeline you wouldn't have trans women take records and spots from biological women across many things. it seems like an open scientific question as to how much the remaining advantages help a trans woman on a sports specific basis. although it is still certainly most surprising in combat sports in particular to have someone with the benefits of male genetics/testosterone being pit against someone else.

is it fair to ban caster? i dunno, but she'll likely forever has an asterisk* next to her name too.

Again, thats a distinct difference than having xy chromosomes and test levels off the charts for a real woman.
this kinda comes down to that we only segment on male/female though while there is a genetic variance that gave someone an advantage. beyond a normal sports one (say height) like phelps has advantages with how his muscles work/fatigue or something like that. if you have someone who is trans you could still make the argument its within genetic variance, but at least you could point to their choice and hormone manipulation being made there - vs. athletes like caster or khelif (potentially) who just were born a certain way.

(S)he also might be like sickmint79 sickmint79 lady boys in Thailand and have a unit too. No one will confirm what actual condition it has.
i doubt it given the culture she is coming from.

If the IBA banned her and another boxer from competing. Which they are the defacto standard. Why would silly old IOC allow this?
thought i heard they banned her just because the ceo or something wanted to and that they then looked for reasons later? and the IOC is going by another set of standards, and also the IOC isn't using the IBA for the olympics due to some shady stuff that they had going on or something? i really don't know. also the memes keep talking about how the woman didn't want to fight a man etc. but apparently she had no problem with fighting khelif and thinks khelif should keep fighting.

i have seen a meme going around from lefties on facebook about a filipino woman, who lives as a man, but is fighting as a woman, and trying to say people are bigoted for not having a problem with her fighting as a woman. although she apparently was born as a woman, does not do hormone therapy, and the rules force her to box as a woman even though she'd prefer to compete with men. so the situation hardly seems analogous...

i'm curious what thailand actually does, although thai ladyboys are like way more feminine than american trans women. like they'd be more concerned about breaking a nail than playing basketball. i'm sure some do sports though. i also dunno how many even consider themselves women necessarily as i think a lot just consider themselves a 3rd option, not man or woman, but ladyboy

Supposedly Caster fathered children with a wife through artificial insemination after the olympics.

How can "she" do that without producing sperm?

Unless all the things talking about it are just not specifying that she is not the sperm donor, Ive only read a few times where they just talk about artificial insemination and getting the wife pregnant.

How about just make it this easy.....

From now on, we will test all athletes, XX will compete against XX, XY will compete against XY.

Any XX person with a testosterone level above ____ is disqualified from competing.

Yeah, theres videos of her shirtless playing at a pool and stuff like that and I think the exact same thing.

I think its just all changed now that there is one in a contact sport and women are getting their faces bashed in, but who knows. :bowrofl:

where do the rules end though and what conditions do you put on them? someone could be XX and have high test naturally, too bad - no sports for you? at any level? sorry you lost the genetic lottery because you won too much of a sports advantage? and if that's the case why not ban phelps too if he has a genetic condition that allows his muscles to fatigue less than 99.99% of people, that's not fair either ya?

Do they not already impose restrictions on testosterone levels? Otherwise every athlete on the stage would be juiced out of their minds no?

i dunno what all they actually do test really or when/how often/who is selected, outside of trans women. although i feel where you draw the line is secondary to simply saying "no sports for you" to someone, especially if they were just born that way. or i guess you could say "play with the boys/open category" although would expect that to go poorly.

i am curious now what does go on with thai ladyboys in say high school and college, if they do sports do they play with the women? problem is my thai is shit and the closest thai people i most frequently interact with have bad english, and i don't want them thinking that i want them to go fetch me a team of ladyboy basketball players

I dont think they do chromosome testing when theyre born in the hospital do they? So who really knows whats going on inside their bodies. :dunno:
doc might not know or might just chat with the parents and make a call and put that on the birth certificate anyway. algeria is probably not the best place in the world you'd want to let your government know that your baby has some sexual ambiguity

Were not talking about high school sports, were talking about the olympics which should be the pinnacle of athletic competition.

If you have XY go play with the other XY people. Guarantee this boxer wouldnt come close to doing shit in XY or be in the Olympics if they were competing in XY, but since they are XY playing in XX they're off to an unfair advantage.

In high school, sure, go play basketball with other XX people if you have a vagina but high testosterone....

Im sure the kid was born, has a vagina, and the doc said "check off female" but if they have a disorder which makes them have XY and abnormal high testosterone levels, does that mean they should compete against purely XX fighters?

The IOC needs to just trump all these lower entities and say what they are testing for for every athlete competing in the olympics.

Theyre defaulting to other sanctioning bodies is part of the problem here.

So people are failing gender tests with other sanctioning bodies but theyre still allowed in the olympics per the IOC? makes zero sense.

i dunno ultimately how male someone may present with XY, but it looks like XY women have had functioning lady bits and even given birth (although pretty rare). i don't think there's great answers here really. also apparently it's not as simple as dividing XX/XY as apparently some intersex people can have some cells with XX and some with XY. or there is a syndrome where cells are XXY.

I get all that.

I guess at that point sorry to the .0001% (whatever the shocking low number is) of intersex people just cant compete in the olympics because they wouldnt meet the standards set forth by the IOC.

Could they technically compete in the special olympics then? :s00ls:
