There is not a quick charge infrastructure on every corner, let alone 5 mins or less to completely recharge capability.
If your metric is a 5 minute charge then we may never get there. There’s an argument though for not losing time because you don’t need 4 oil changes a year. And besides road trips you don’t ever need to visit a charging station.

Through technical advances we will never get there? interesting

And you are assuming shorter commutes to / from work.

Build the infrastructure that support EV, then the masses will transition over.

Maybe a little more of the $2 trillion should be purposed to support.

The average person drives 40 miles a day for work. Of course some do more, some do less. If a 300 mile range vehicle isn’t enough for a 40 mile commute I don’t know what to tell you.

Or, the Govt allocates more of that $2 trillion towards EV infrastructure and quick charge capability.

Until then, the masses are buying gas and hybrid vehicles.

TCG - “ we all drive 1000 miles a day, and only fill up our cars while on the move.”

On the days we don’t Commute 1000 miles a day we take 4000 mile road trips.

Not quite, the majority of drivers will transition away from any type of gas vehicle when energy generation and distribution ramps up to fulfill the flexibility and demand.

Again, good to see Ford stake a claim with the Mach E and Lightning.

It’d be great to have more fast charging.
But the problem with this Ford is that we already have faster infrastructure than it can use. The government doesn’t control how Ford designs the charging speed of the vehicle so they can spend all the money they want, it won’t make a difference

Referencing EV in general, but again, good to see Ford come out of the gate.

Supporters of EV should be questioning why the Govt is investing less than 10% of the infrastructure bill towards supporting EV related infrastructure and associated technology of the future.

You can play that game forever though. The people who are into roads and bridges will say “why help EVs, we need roads and bridges” and so on and so on

Yeah, No, again less than 10% portioned off for supporting EV infrastructure and subsidiaries (I imagine tax credits includes, which does not support the infrastructure).

As a tax payer I think it’s bullshit, and find the Govt’s approach to be shit; heavily influence the market towards EV, yet limit the support and funding to lay a strong foundation for EV of the future.

Are the gas stations provided by the government? The infrastructure will come from the private market. Just like all these EV's coming onto the market have deals with private companies on charging. As more EV's are sold, they will build more stations.

Always be behind demand, sounds like a plan.

If the Govt is heavily influencing EV, then they already have skin in the game, which we see their self-acceptance of accountability via $1.7b of our tax dollars (which is still half ass in comparison to the $2 trillion).

Are you saying a tax credit that expires at 200k vehicles is "Heavily Influencing" EV's?

Nope, as an example; Biden set the goal to decarbonize the US by 2050 and convert the average household to clean energy. To model the way he committed to converting the US Govt vehicle fleet to electric (650k vehicles).

All of which he has bipartisan support

Illinois is shutting down all their nuclear plants.

That said, seriously wondering if these will make the news every time they catch fire like Teslas seem to. Right now I'm pretty sure if someone took a can of gasoline and set a Tesla on fire it'd make the news. Ford will have huge production #s of these in all probability so it's an inevitability.

Also curious to see if the Cyber Truck will compete against it at all or well.

Byron and Dresden plant seems to be on the table, but the aging nuclear fleet and shorten refuel / maintenance windows as a whole is a broader concern.

I think the future will need a different style of refill station when it comes to EVs. Your typical stand outside for 3 minutes and maybe go inside for a coffee will not be a model good for EVs with their current charge times. Unless you are charging enough to get to work, sitting somewhere for 10-15 minutes has to have something to either engage or draw people in to spend more money.
