this is all really interesting to me though.
the $4500 for the trek one is kinda tough to bite off pricewise for someone like myself who hasn't ever thought about pricing on these but fuck they make so much sense... and the more i think about it, the price makes sense also.
I agree, the price is a little rough. I was looking at some more in the $2500 range and they still look like they would be nice, but I defer to our resident bike guru's like ilikemtb999
They’re pretty big and I think only use Bosch motors, I don’t have direct experience with them though.Have you heard of Haibike? I heard their ebikes were nice, or would you stick to the Treks, Specialized, etc....
They make cheaper ones (trek), the biggest difference to look out for is the battery size on the cheaper stuff.this is all really interesting to me though.

I was an e-bike hater till I actually rode one. I ordered one that day and I’ve got a new one coming hopefully at the end of the month.Get into this argument with my friend all the time. He's in the "electric bikes defeat the purpose of a bike, to go out and get exercise!" group, and Im in the "who cares, if an ebike gets someone out riding for 20 miles instead of zero because they dont enjoy it, then thats a good thing" group....
I have a nice path system by me thats 12 miles long, Ive tried to ride it and just cant because theres a few hills that I need to stop and walk up because im a fat slob. I figure if I could use assist for those tougher parts it would make it a nicer experience and I would be more likely to go ride it.

Doesn’t look like they do any commuter style bikes, only class 1 bikes (mountain/trail) and are rated to 18-20mph.
I really like the Bosch stuff. Almost never have issues, they’re the only ones with UL rated batteries and they’ve got a ton of torque.
I'm just not getting the e-bike thing.
I bike to exercise, if I want to motor I'll wrap a leg around my scooter.
I’ve heard good things about the Yamaha motors too. My biggest hang up is the no UL rating on the massive lithium ion battery. I just don’t want an uncertified potential fire hazard in my house. They have a line called Trekking that I think are more commuter style....

Like you mentioned, it looks like they use all Bosch stuff and that seemed to be what all the better ebikes had in common.... Bosch and they weren't hub motors....
Agreed, we are able to go to more places with the assistance of the e motor helping out. Also nice to have pedal assistance which keeps you at a certain speed. You sound just like my buddy, yet you see a post by the one person on here who whos on bikes all day and likely rides them the most, and he's literally saying how they help him to ride further and harder....
