Damn near two year update. A lot of this contradicts what I'd originally sought out to do with the car, but, buying my Formula and making that the "get in and thrash it" car has tamed this down, along with somewhat loosing interest in racing.
The route the resurrection has been going has been more of an improved stock car that'll be fun at the track but also a good driver.
The 12 bolt I posted about prior ended up getting sold, and a date coded 12 bolt with a 3:55 posi was comissioned. The frame was blasted and E-coated and every suspension piece and line was replaced with new or reconditioned. The bodywork and paint correction has all been completed and I'm happy to say that 85% or more of the paint on the car is still the original paint it left the factory with, most of the blending is in the lower quarters where the wheelwells were fixed and a touch around the rear windshield.
Glass went in this week, interior is soon to follow. Seats have been done and ready for installation for a while.
As far as an engine goes, I have a line on a 1969 date coded Oldsmobile 350 shortblock that has a lot of good parts in it. Although it's not a W31 350, it's at least as close to what the car was born with without spending an arm and a leg. Forged internals, lunati cam, fully blueprinted/balanced that I'm going to try and make a deal on. I'll top it off with period #5 iron heads with some port work and valvetrain upgrades. I've got a good intake manifold and beefed up quadrajet to work with that setup as well. The car will be going together as a 4 speed car now as it originally was.
Here's some quick pics of the car from today. Going to have some cool updates from here on out as the car is committed to be at the 2018 MCACN show's W-31 invitational, which will have 20+ of the best W31 cars in the country, a few of which being ex drag cars as well. The car will be sporting a lot of the original graphics from the original family who owned and raced the car, especially excited about that process and there will be more to come on that soon.
