E85 Levels by Fuel Station!!

Shell is trying to maximize profits. They know a vehicle that runs e85 fills up more often. So if they price it close to 87 and lower the ethanol content, you'll be back at the pump more often than straight 87.

That makes no sense. If they wanted you back more often, they would raise the ethanol content. Ethanol has LESS energy than the gasoline.

I thought that at first too but I think he was saying in comparison to 87 octane. 50% ethanol will still burn quicker than 87 so in theory they would be back at the pump more often. 50% ethanol will yield a little better mpg than higher ethanol content blends all else equal so most people probably wouldn't notice as substantial lose in mpg with lower ethanol mix e85.
