Verey nice info Larry. I was running consistent 13.5-13.6 with my old 06 GT at Byron and i went to US41 and still ran the same times and GLD was the same. it is a straight track.

It's a combination of measurements that determine the effective altitude based on a set of weather conditions (Temp, Dew Point, Barometer, Actual Altitude).

The lower the number, the faster you'll go (all things being equal).

Density Altitude. Like Larry said, it's a mathmatical calculation using the weather readings to give a number saying what altitude equivilent of air you are racing in.

^+3... think of hot and humid as usually a high DA day...

think of cool/ cold and not hot as low DA...

that is why your car feels faster on these cooler nights than on those same hotter days.

so i was bored and downloaded the latest Google Earth... unbelievable what you can see on the track... you can sit on the starting line and see the elevation and just cruise down the track in like a 15sec car LOL and see the elevation at any spot... actually, the track from start to finish goes uphill a few feet... very cool!

I was just having this conversation yesterday with a coworker and he was telling me that back in the early 80's they used to run the top fuel cars but that they used to catch air and crash because they way the track is dont nessecery believe that though

When your there it does give the perception that is goes down a little bit while looking toward the end of the track.

But really the only thing going down at byron are the brave souls who eat there burgers and of course the bulbs on the track lights.
