I’m working on putting together a smallish kit of strongman implements to add some variety to my training.

First things first, it would have been cheaper to buy a pre made steel log press from Titan Fitness for $229 shipped. A real log, log press starts around $500 if you can find one in stock.

What’s the fun in buying something pre made? I’m a tinkerer and if I can build or do anything for myself, I do it 90% of the time. Fabrication is just as fun as the end result for me.

The beginning:
DEEZUZ DEEZUZ was kind enough to slice up a section of utility pole for me that he had lying around on his property. 10” diameter, 54” long right now that I’ll cut down to 48”, and i would guess 80-110lbs.

Steel prices are crazy right now. Hopped on SendCutSend and ordered some laser cut plate to make ends for the log to load plates and plates to mount handles inside the log. Naming this the DEEZUS log, and getting the name plate laser cut to recess into the log.

inb4 this thing straight up wrecks your back and knees

For real though, looks like a fun project
It *should* be a reasonable weight to work with by the time I’m done. Pre made 10” ones are 80-100lbs so I figure mine will be in that ballpark.

Definitely going to be geared up in a belt, knee and elbow sleeves, wrist wraps when doing this shit.

Hand holes carved. 2” forstner bit and a chisel. The wood is a bit wet right now, I’m going to clean it up better in a couple months when it dries out fully.

I’m guessing it’s in the ballpark of 60lbs right now. The end plates, loading pins, fasteners are probably another 15-20lbs. I’ll get it on a scale when I finish. Should be done some time on Monday!

It was easily 110-120lbs before I started and has definitely dried out some. Cut about 10” off the end down to 48” total, each of those notches is 3” deep and 12” across at the top, and the hand holes are 4.5” deep 6.25” square. I filled a 55gal garbage can with wood shavings making those two holes.

It’s light enough I can handle and press it overhead even in its awkward handle-less state.
