Id love to-do this and could easily pull it off working downtown. I usually spend 1-2 nights on the boat anyway per week. At least once during the summer I spend a entire week on the boat and commute to work. My boat neighbor spent the entire summer on his boat. Said he loved it.

Why did I buy a house again? :io:

With a single 370-hp Volvo Penta D6 powering our test boat, we reached a top speed of 26.4 mph at 3640 rpm. Best cruise seemed to come in at 3000 rpm and 19.2 mph. At that speed, we measured a 13 gph fuel burn that translated into a range of 253 miles. However, being a trawler first and foremost, we’d be remiss if we didn’t report a displacement speed. So, at 1250 rpm, she was running at 6.9 mph with a 1.4 gph fuel burn and could keep that up for 843 miles. All of this while still holding back a 10% reserve of the boat’s 190 gallon (719 L) total fuel capacity.

my p's had their 47' sabreline trawler in North Port for well over 10years. They lived on it from April thru October and absolutely loved it. I do realize this is a larger boat but anything in the trawler segment tends to get narrow beam wise. I basically lived on the boat for multiple summers on N dock and could totally see myself doing that for a couple of years. The only way I could would be to be down in one of the city marina's obviously. North Port was nice but way too far north. just my $.02 here is a pic, not their boat, but exact color and layout.

that's kind of the idea of what i'd want to do. Seasonal live aboard. I have a ton of fun out in the city when it's warm, on and off the water. Winter, i'm a home body and the hassle of all the hustle and bustle being out here gets to me a bit.

id need to find a seasonal place to live, for the off season. Maybe buy a cheap condo, find a friend who would let me crash in their basement or spare room 6mos of the year. or live in a winnebago in the parking lot at work :bowrofl:

$7200, it is a 50' though. That's still more than $1k over chicago harbor prices
https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/boa/5956162050.html

everything else i've seen is either for sale @$40k+ for a 25' wide enough for a canoe
or just small slips for rent.

25' $2900 for the summer, $3500 year round
